So i bought an iphone 4
So with the news of the 4.1 shatter exploit being released soon, i bought an iphone 4, i fought long and hard to get a week 36, which is 4.0.2 but still old modem.
as soon as the shatter exploit comes out im set, right?
im still on old modem, so i will be able to unlock. (1.59)
i really did not want a week 37+ because that has new modem.
confirm with me please, thanks.

Yes u can unlock as soon as the jailbreak comes out. Just don't upgrade to 4.1, unless you upgrade with tinyumbrella. You can also check it has shsh saved using tinyumbrella, u never know what might come up

the good news is that even though you only have 4.1 shsh's available at this time is that as Waleed said if you follow the tutorial on the tinyumbrella site you can restore if something goes wrong and still preserve your unlockable baseband
p.s. thank you for doing some research before posting/asking your questions....it's very refreshing (and a dying trait I might add)Last edited by j3st3r; 09-25-2010 at 02:02 AM.

Wait so if his phone crashses and goes into dfu/recovery mode, he can still restore without updating his baseband as long he has his SHSH's on tinyumbrella?

from the tinyumbrella website
"I put my money where my mouth is. I tested my code on my own iPhone 4 and was able to update to 4.1 without touching my baseband.
The only doctoring I did was removing my private info. The newest version of TinyUmbrella will have an added side-benefit of allowing you to update to 4.1 without the fear of baseband update. Of course, in order to downgrade back to 4.0.x you need to have your SHSH saved on Cydia or locally. Have fun
I've also seen a TON of questions about how to update from 4.0.x to 4.1 WITHOUT*updating your baseband. I'll give you a quick rundown of how to do it.
Get the latest TinyUmbrella (4.1.3)
READ THE README*TinyUmbrella README*NOW Yes. You Read it.
Run TinyUmbrella.
Start TSS Server
Open iTunes
Restore 4.1 (NOT UPDATE) Yes this requires you to download 4.1 Here
Let iTunes error with 1004 error (baseband update failed - we want this
)
Kick Device Out of Recovery
\o/ -- You are now on 4.1 with 1.59.00 baseband!"
