Can't selet custom IPSW iTunes 10
I upgraded to iTunes 10 for a week ago, and now I need to restore my iPhone 3G to a custom 4.1, but when I shift + restore it just prompts me about downloading from apples servers?!
And please, i'm not an idiot, yes I have pressed the shift while clicking restore, and yes I have tried both etc.
It is iTunes that is wrong with. I tried downgrading to 9.2.1 but the problem was left.
Any tips`?

Bump
You need to block the gs.apple.com server in your hosts file
PC idk google it
Mac- open terminal
Type sudo pico /private/etc/hosts
And place the code in there
By code I mean the ip address for the other server then gs.apple.com
Also if your jailbroken I hope your back on 3.1.2 jabroken before you do this
If I helped please thank me onsite

I'm in the same boat. I tunes 10 doesn't allow me to select an update holding the shift key. The address and domain names do nothing.

Have you tried iReb yet? It helped me to do the restore!

iReb Download
1) select iPhone 3G and put it in DFU Mode (iReb explains How-to)
2) let it do what needs to be done
3) after it's done open iTunes and do what you want to do
Hope this helps!
