Default How to upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.0.1 3GS

    Hey,

I'm using an iPhone 3GS and it's jailbroken/unlocked on 3.1.3. I have the SHSH for 4.0 4.0.1 and 4.0.2. How to I UPGRADE by using shift and clicking update in iTunes? Didn't apple stop signing 4.0.1?

    Thanks!

Yes they did and you would actually want to downgrade to 3.1.2 blackra1n or blacksn0w I forget which one, then when 4.1 is jailbreakable upgrade to 4.1

In order to go from 4.0.1 to 4.1 u must downgrade to 3.1.2 first, ps don't go anywhere near 4.1 if u need an unlock right now just wait it's working for 3GS oldbootrom it's close to it's final release

I need to go from 3.1.3 to 4.0.1. I do not want to go to 4.1

    Can't I just use tinyumbrella?

I picked up a used 3 g the other day which was jailbroken, SHSH not saved. Went to cydia and clicked make my life easier. SHSH now saved for 4.0 4.0.1 and 4.0.2.

I then downgraded to 3.1.3 with the intent of uprading to 4.0 and re-jailbraking. The downgrade to 3.1.3 went off without a hitch. I jailbroke and unlocked without issue.

I have been trying for 2 days to upgrade to 4.0 but whenever I get the phone restarted I am back to 3.1.3.

I have SHSH saved, I have tried using tinyumbrella, ireb, and recboot tools to verify, kick out of restore etc.. but to no avail.

Anyone else experience this or have any suggestions?

So, you run tinyumbrella TSS server, and shift-restore to a downlaoded 4.0.1 file? You shouldn't have to kick out of restore.

OK, so what am I missing? Should be pretty simple... open itunes... put phone in DFU mode... when itunes prompts to restore say OK... hold shift key and click on restore... select downloaded ipsw off my local machine.

I tunes goes through the motions like it is updating the iphone.

Then the screen turns white, and that is all the further I get. I get an error message 1601. When I get the iphone booted back up and running I am back to 3.1.3. It works the same way whether I try to upgrade to 4.0, 4.0.1 or whatever.

So... what is it I am missing???

    Thanks...

Run Notepad as Admin , open up hosts file and add this line :
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
save it and reboots your pc
Now do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1 ipsw.

So, did you select the firmware you wanted to use? When iTunes shows up with whatever cause you're in DFU don't let it do anything, just shift-restore.

I don't know if I can be of any more help.

You have not done any downgrading yet , that is why you are still at 3.1.3.
To restore to any firmware which is not signed by Apple anymore, you will need shsh blogs , therefore you have to point your hosts file towards Cydia for verification if only you have shsh blogs stored with Cydia.

    yeow... thanks for your response,

So... to recap my prior post:

SHSH blobs are saved for 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2
I downgraded successfully to 3.1.3, but can't get back to 4.0/4.0.1

My host file reads as follows:

    127.0.0.1 localhost
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
    #127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

Getting white screen and itunes error 1601

iReb seems to be hanging at "waiting for iBSS"

when I get the phone restarted it is back to the jailbroken 3.1.3 that I had downgraded to a few days ago.

    Any ideas? Cheers!

    EDIT:
Well... I finally got it. Yeah!

Ended up using a different computer, rebuilding my SHSH blob files to the local machine with tinyumbrella, going to itunes and restoring to 3.1.3 again, and then using iReb to eliminate errors and BAM... got it!

Just a lot of messing around with different tools in the long run... that and switching computers may have had a lot to do with it. Also made sure to download the latest versions of tinyumbrella and iReb. Still on iTunes 9.2 though.

Just thought I would post in case it might help someone else...somehow...

    Thanks all!
