Okay i have a 3gs 3.1.3 which was jailbroken by spirit but now my phone is not jailbroken. I have itunes 9.1. I had sshh on cydia on my phone when jailbroken 3.1.3 / 4.0 / 4.01. Also i used Tiny umbrella to save my sshh 3.1.3 / 4.0.

I had to do a restore because i put the new version skype app on and it stuffed my phone. up.

So now i thought i would upgrade my phone to 4.0 or 4.0.1 - Well easy said then done.

I have tried the tiny umbrella thing hit the TSS to run then open itunes then hold down shift key select restore. im haveing no luck also tried it in DFO.

What am i doing wrong/.

What error message are you getting?

Do you have the new or the old bootrom? What version of the firmware are you on now that you have done a restore?

Have you used Tinyumbrella to double check which SHSH files you have on store? Go to the advanced options and check for each 3GS firmware type and try to obtain from cydia.

OK, then what you should do is jailbreak where you are at 3.1.3 with spirit. Then use spirit2pwn and go to 4.0 with custom firmware - no need for SHSH files in this instance.

If you wait till snowbreeze 2.0 is released (maybe tomorrow) you could go to 4.1 with custom firmware.

In my host file i have

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com

As you see both should i delete one ?

Delete both and go with custom firmware

looked up spirit2pwn and a few post say its a fake ?

Spirit2pwn is unofficial, but it works. I've done at least 5 3GS phones with it. So long as you are old bootrom already jailbroken with spirit then this is the easiest and best solution for you.

Jailbreak with spirit
Install spirit2pwn in cydia
Custom restore with firmware from pwnagetool/snowbreeze.

Trust me, you'll not look back.

Wasn't too bad. It went down to a category 1 right at the last minute so we were spared the worst of it. Could have been a lot worse. My electric pole connected to my house came down in my neighbours yard so still without power, hanging at the inlaws for now til it is back on.

Yeow is correct (as always!), AFTER you have jailbroken with spirit you should update iTunes.

Maybe I'll change my login details so I can be x99car?
