Upgrading iphone 3gs from 3.1.2 to 3.1.3 instead of 4.1

I'm on fw 3.12 and I want to upgrade to 3.13, how do I go about doing so?

Just Do the Shift key + Restore to 3.1.3 ipsw which you have to download.

Basically, there is no new feature in 3.1.3 compared to 3.1.2

But I tried to get netflix and it told me that I needed to upgrade to 3.1.3, and I've heard that newer apps require that fw

Edit: do I have to put my phone in DFU mode?

Yeah, you can go ahead and restore to 3.1.3 if some never apps require you to be on 3.1.3. Make sure you backup your contacts and photos with itunes. After the jailbreak you can use Spirit to jailbreak if your itunes is not 9.2, Jailbreak with Jailbreakme.com or you can use Redsn0w 0.9.4 to jailbreak.

I'm a bit confused, after I hit "shift + Restore" I will lose my jailbreak? I thought if I do the "shift + restore" it will just update my fw?

Any restore will wipe it clean, you have to jailbreak again. Apple does not allow jailbreak, so Itunes will delete everything regarding jailbreak.

yeow, i know it might be a bit too much but can you specify what exactly to do? I've tried downloading redsnow9.4 and it won't take 3.1.3?

You have to point to 3.1.2 ipsw which you have to download as well when running Redsn0w.
After the jailbreak at 3.1.3, if you want 4.1, restore to Pwnage tools 4.1 for 3G, it is a custom firmware , you have to create yourself or if someone post it on the internet, then you can simply restore to this custom firmware and later unlock with Ultrasn0w.
