iTunes not letting me restore a back up?

iTunes is not letting me restore a back up because i'm not using 4.1 is there anyway around this?

iTunes says i need to update to the latest firmware because i can restore a backup.

You cant restore a 4.1 backup to a previous firmware. You can extract the backups from the various apps (game saves etc) with something like juicephone and then manually put them back in.

Found this from googling. Its not free but looks like it will work.

maybe you could backup your games to the pc firstly
