Hello all. Been a while. I just picked up my iPhone 4s yesterday and I was looking online for jailbreak options but it doesnt seem like there are any yet. Is this correct? Just looking for some confirmation.

    Thanks!

    Default Perfect 'storm'
I have an iphone 3g no longer under contract with ATT

    here is my current versions:
    version 4.1 8b117
    modem firmware 5.14.02

Should I update the OS to 4.2 so I can use jailbreakme.com so I can then unlock the phone for T-Mobile?

My 'main' phone is the 4G (I skipped the 3GS), and I would like this for my wife. I'm not really interested in:

    GPS
    3G

basically I just want it to work as a phone/Ipod...

I've gone through quite a few of the links and to be honest my head is kinda spinning.

    Thanks for your time.

You can go straight to iOS 5.

Your method with preservation of baseband would likely be with a custom fw that you may create with sn0wbreeze.

I just purchased an iPhone off ebay with iOS 5 and the baseband is preserved to 1.59.00. How can i jailbreak my phone without anything happening to the baseband so that i can unlock the phone using software.
I am new to iPhone world so i am confused and scared doing all this.

PS: I have opened a thread too for the same

Thanks to everyone on MMI for great info. I have a question about an older FW. I have a 4S on iOS 5. I know it is currently unlockable and I should stay on 5.0 instead of upgrading to 5.0.1 in case an exploit ever gets found to unlock 5.0 (which might be patched in 5.0.1). I also have an iPhone 4 on 4.2.1 stock. I travel internationally a lot for work and unfortunately both phones are locked to AT&T. I have a Gevey Ultra which should work for the iPhone 4 on 4.2.1, but not yet for the 4GS on ios 5.

    Questions:

    1. iPhone 4 on 4.2.1. I've read through the whole thread and the guide at the front. It's very comprehensive but I don't know if things have changed since 4.3.X and 5.0 have been out. Should I use redsn0w, greenpoison or limerain to jailbreak my iPhone 4 on 4.2.1? Which version of any of those should I use? I'm on 3.10.01 BB. I also have my real AT&T sim from my 4S to activate the phone so no hactivation needed. The threads are pointing me towards using greenpoison - is that the best? Will the Gevey Ultra work better for any of those jailbreak methods?

    2. Syncing both iphones 4 and 4S through the same iTunes. I'm hoping I can sync both phones through my laptop with iTunes to the same Outlook accounts so that any updates made either via iPhone or Outlook will get synced properly for my contacts and calendar entries. Anyone else do this successfully?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I just updated this guide. Everything is up to date.

Syncing two devices to one iTunes shouldn't be an issue if you are wanting to use the same accounts on both devices.

No. iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1 are tethered jailbreaks except for old bootrom 3GS.

Your guess is as good as ours. Follow the devs' twitters and blogs to get the most recent news on it. It's been pretty quiet lately though, so we don't know.

Im a total noob when it comes to jailbreaking....

If my baseband is 04.11.08 will i still be able to jailbreak my i phone 4 (5.0.1) and have signal. i am confused as if you must also unlock the baseband if you jailbreak

Jailbreak and unlock are two different things. You can jailbreak a iPhone 4 just fine without needing to unlock (it will be tethered jailbreak though).

The semi-tether tweak is nice. Who knows how long the untethered will take. Using the semi-tether tweak in Cydia will allow the phone to still turn on and function after reboot or shut down. Just need to boot tethered to get jb stuff to work again is all.

oh ok so the semi allows your default i phone settings to be working on startup? the only thing ive been worried about is losing my carrier signal (vodaphon uk) if i jailbreak and be left with an ipod lol

also i i was to upgrade the tethered to an untetherd jb in the future would that be difficult to do or problematic?
