Thanks you for your understanding, and i would be very pleased to receive some help with the phone. It is an iphone 3 model A1303 version 4.3 i am actauly on a french network called bouygues telecom and the phone has not been unlocked before. A good friend of mine got himself the iphone 4 and gave it to me for almost no money. It was a long time i wanted to own one but couldnt afford the high price we have to pay in france to get one.
I hope you'll understand my poor english.

I'm assuming it's a 3GS bc it is on 4.3. Do you need to unlock it to use it with your carrier? I can tell you how to jailbreak but there are additional steps if you need to unlock it as well.

I do not need to unlock it, i only need to jailbreak. I have been reading a bit about jailbreak and installed on my pc forcast.exe. i done the check, and it said can only be jailbreak with shsh blobs. this sound completly foreign to me... I gladly take your help Annie.

I would like to use my new (to me) iPhone on in conjunction with my T-Mobile sim. Here are my specifics.
I just finished reading many guides and the information is a bit overwhelming. I think I'm on the right track though. It's my understanding that I first need to jailbreak my device with a program called Spirit. Then through Cydia, via Spirit, I can unlock my device with Ultrasn0w.
I have on hand the original AT&T sim. Should it be in the phone at all times during this process? I'm not sure when the activation process takes place.
This phone was given to me from a friend who had used it before, but legit with AT&T. iTunes is asking if I would like to set the device as a new phone. I'm not sure if that should be done before or after the jailbreaking/unlocking process or if even.
Also, I had a jailbroken/unlocked iPhone 3G previous to this phone and have a backup on iTunes. Is that restore moot, since I am attempting to use a different device?
One last question, if/when my device is jailbroken and unlocked, with the process described above, my firmware will still be 3.1.2, but custom? Should I be looking at a guide that will upgrade me to iOS4? Going to 4 on my old 3G only slowed it down. What's my best option?
Thank you for taking the time to read. Hopefully I'll be able to get this to work soon. Thanks for your help in advance.

Yes you are unlockable.
You can upgrade to 4.xx with a custom ipsw and unlock with ultrasn0w unlike the 3g phone you had 4.xx actually runs pretty smoothly on 4.xx.

Thanks for the confirmation. Used Spirit which was super speedy. I'm now a little worried because it's now stuck or maybe just taking a while to "reload springboard" after using ultrasn0w.
Is that normal? Should I force another restart on the phone? It's been about 15 minutes now?
