question for the iphone pros , 3g stuck ??

just got a 3g , it was stuck at the apple logo.
dont know the history of the phone but i put it in recovery mode and plug it in to my itunes version 9.2
to restore it its wanting to update it to 4.1 as well but i dont wanna update it to 4.1
so what do i need to do to get around this,

Put it into DFU and shift+restore to 3.1.x.

I say 3.1.x cuz you didn't state if this phone has SHSHs for 4.0.x. A 3G is better to run on 3.1.x for now anyway.

Like I said, to avoid upgrading, get a 3.1.x ipsw and hold down shift and click restore to select the ipsw you downloaded. JB it with Redsn0w. I suggest going to 3.1.2 to save you the trouble of having to download too many firmwares. Use Redsn0w 0.9.3 and unlock if necessary with Ultrasn0w.

ok i forgot i had a 4.0 restore ispw on my computer so i just did the restore and now its good but needs a sim card, all i have is a tmobile sim so whats my next step thanks

Run redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 and unlock with Ultrasn0w in Cydia.

I would recommend that you downgrade to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 and rejailbreak it. I put 4.0 on my wifes 3g and the phone was junk after that. Took forever to load anything, would freeze up and crash alot. I know they say 4.1 is supposed to work well on the 3g but its not jailbreakable yet. Until it is 3.1.x is the best to use on a 3g.
