3GS and 4.0.1

Just curious if anyone here thinks its worth it to upgrade to 4.0.1 right now. If i do so, will i experience any reception issues or anything?

I'm running that setup right now and haven't had any signal issues. I like it because of the folders and built in multitasking plus the zoom on the camera.

Stay away from the latest FW if you need an unlock. I usually just wait until there's a definitive jailbreak and unlock. I hate dealing with scenarios where you have to have previously jailbroken with yadda yadda and unlocked with this in order to use that.

Just a heads up you cannot upgrade to 4.0.1 unless you have your shsh blobs saved via cydia or tinyumbrella.

Ok thanks, yah i do have SHSH files according to cydia for 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1 and 4.0.2.

Yeah, I'm running that from 3.1.3 and it's the best thing I've ever done. (on an iPhone anyway) disable apple multitasking and install backgrounder and multiflow for the best ever backgrounding. Most cydia apps now run smooth on ios4 aswell. Folders are cool and u can theme those too. So in a word. Yes.

im on 3.1.3 right now, im just getting tired of the same thing..want to do something new to the phone lol without loosing jailbreak capability

Download tiny umbrella and start the TSS server then restore to 4.0.1 and rejailbreak with jailbreakme.com.

Did you use spirit to jailbreak and do you know if you have the old bootrom ? If you answer Yes to both, then I can get you to use custom firmware.

Edit : Give me your first 5 digits of your serial number starting from the left.

The sn is 87011, its the MC model and i did use spirit to jb my current fw.

So i brought up tiny umbrella and started the TSS server. When i hit Display SHSHs, there is nothing there..

When i load Cydia, it says i have SHSHs files for 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2.

New bootrom, so stay away from Custom Firmware. To upgrade , you must restore to Stock firmware
When you click Display Shsh, it is not there is because you haven't reqested from Cydia yet.
Download tiny Umbrella version 4.1.4,
Plug in your bootable 3Gs
Click Advanced option
Device/Version select 3GS 4.0.1 shsh file
Request from : Cydia
Click Save Shsh
Wait for answer, if it it says restoring to this OS will succeed.
Then Double check , Click Display shsh to see if it is there.
You have to add this line to your hosts file
127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com ( if it is already there, then that's fine )
and the rest comment out with this #
Start Tss Server
Do the Shift + Restore to 4.0.1, make sure under Device/Version 4.0 shsh is also selected.
Let it restore and let us know if it works.

OR you can restore through Cydia Server :

This is what you do :
In your hosts file add this line to the very bottom
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
and the rest comment out with this #
save it and reboot.
Put Iphone into Recovery mode
Now do the Shift + Restore to 4.0 ipsw.

Ok, i saved the shsh file, but when i do the shift + restore..the phone has to be in DFU correct? and where is the IPSW file that im selecting?

Recovery mode is good, Start Tss Server and it will say accepting Connection.
Do the Shift key + Restore (Itunes) and browse to 4.0.1 ipsw which you must also download.
