Need some assistance with a 4.1 iPhone 3G

Hey, a friend who I sold an iPhone to updated it to 4.1 by accident. It requires an unlock to work in this country so I need to try to help him fix this.

I know how to downgrade and re-jailbreak the phone. However I thought I read that 4.1 upgrades the baseband on the iPhone (not sure if it does on 3G?).

If so I assume the new baseband cannot be unlocked by ultrasn0w. Is it possible to downgrade the baseband in any way?

Only if the 3G iphone has a bootloader of 5.8, use iforecast to check. Fuzzyband will do that if he has 5.8 which is very rare.
