Jailbreak 3GS iOS 4.0.2 (New Bootrom) Info?
So I see they've figured out how to jailbreak the old bootrom for the 4.0.2 on the 3GS. Does anyone know where I can find info on how to do it with the new bootrom?

You need to have been JB before on a previous fw to then shift+restore to a custom fw for 4.0.x.

Are you saying there's never going to be any new bootrom support for 4.0.2? From what I've seen they're pretty close to it. I just wanted to know if anyone had any info on how it was coming along or where to get the latest news. What you're saying makes no sense from what I've read. They've cracked new bootrom versions before.
Is there any way to downgrade safely? I've tried to use the SHSH Blob program, but it can't get a read on my firmware because I'm running 4.0.2.
I'm afraid to try it without that, even though I have no idea what it really does. Basically I was told that if I can't get a backup of my SHSH Blob then I can't downgrade.Last edited by apennismightier; 09-16-2010 at 10:43 PM.

a new bootrom 3GS DOES NOT accept custom firmwares reguardless of whether you were previously jailbroken, as far as jailbreaking 4.0.2, unless the new jailbreak for 4.1/4.2 includes support for 4.0.2 then you will never be able to jailbreak 4.0.2 on a new bootrom 3GS, without shsh's for 4.0/4.0.1 then you are stuck at this point with no jailbreak

Well, I'm assuming they'll break it eventually. Am I screwed as far as downgrading? I have the tiny umbrella program, but I'm unsure as to how to use it. It obviously can't find my fw because I'm at 4.0.2. The furthest back I can go on it is the 4.0 fw. I think there's a new one out tho with 4.1 support that I can just grab if needed.
I hate to ask, I'm sure you get it all the time, but is there a sticky somewhere that can show me what to do if I'm stuck with the 4.0.2 fw and want to downgrade to 4.0 so I can jailbreak on a new bootrom?
Any thoughts on this method? downgrade iphone 4.0.2 without shsh | iPhone News, Help and GuidesLast edited by apennismightier; 09-17-2010 at 07:53 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

you can try, you really have nothing to lose as you are without a jailbreak at this time

Worst case scenario? I have to restore to 4.0.2 or 4.1? Or no one knows because this method isn't fully tested? I mean, I'm willing to wait. One will eventually come. I was willing to wait before and upgraded to 4.0.2 without realizing what I was doing...
It's just a matter of time. I don't need to jailbreak it right now, but if I can find a tested and workable downgrade, then I'd do that.

without shsh's there is no guarantee that any attempt will work, worst case you have to update to 4.1 and wait for next jailbreak (which you are already doing now)

I've tried downgrading my 4.0.2 iP4 just for kicks even tho I know I don't have the SHSHs since it's a new phone. I didn't have to restore. Just set your phone into DFU and attempt. Just kick it out of recovery with TinyUmbrella or Recboot if it gets stuck in Recovery Mode.

First of all you both sound very confused j3st3r3 and apennismightier!
4.0.2 cannot be jailbroken on anydevice except on the 3G.
But if your phone was previously jailbroken at 4.0 or 4.0.1 and you saved your shsh blobs via cydia or tinyumbrella then you can downgrade from 4.1 or 4.0.2 to 4.0 or 4.0.1 (regardless of what bootrom you have)
If the above is not true in your case then you CANNOT jailbreak at this time and have to wait for the newest jailbreak to come out (which could come anyweek now)
Look at the chart in the link below and this is the tried and true stuff, trust it!!

Your information is correct, I just disagree about J3st3r3. He's not confused

I don't see a flaw in anything he said.

Thanks for the info. I figured a JB was coming soon. And so, I wait... my only concern is that it comes out for the new bootrom, which is really the only thing stopping me because there's a JB for 4.0.2 on the old bootrom.
Why does the new TinyUmbrella have the 4.0.2 and 4.1 options if neither Apple or Cydia support those anymore?

It gives you the option so you can downgrade. The point of tinyumbrella is because iTunes doesn't support firmwares other than current.

Is there a sticky on how to downgrade from 4.0.2 to 4.0.1 if I have the new bootrom, have no previous SHSH blobs, and never been JB'd before on the 3GS?

that is not possible without shsh's (slight chance of working following the guide you linked earlier but I think that's largely untested)

I actually spoke to this guy on another forum who goes by Code Blue. Apparently he's like a known source for this kinda stuff. He said the same thing. Thanks for the info tho.
