Have 3GS 3.1.2 Old Bootrom, Want iOS 4.01, How?

What is the best way to upgrade to 4.01 from 3.1.2?

I like some of the new features of the iOS4 but I still want to jailbreak my phone to keep the goodies

Is iOS4 that much better than 3.1.2?

Yep, because you're on old bootrom you can use custom firmware. That thread should help you a lot.
