Restore as new phone? or not!

Question about after the restore. The phone is my wifes. it's a 3GS. It's at firmware 3.1.2 I'm going to do the 'Shift/Restore procedure in iTunes and take it to 4.0.1 after that should I select "Set up as new phone" or the other option? thanks.

if you restore it to whatever you name the phone it will transfer your apps and contacts.. if you do it as new phone everything will be cleared.

So it sounds like the way to go and what everyone does is to name the phone it's old name and let it restore the contacts and apps. After the restore I'm going to jail break it :-))
