unlocking my iphone 3g

hello is there anybody who can help me i have bought a 2nd hand iphone 8gb 3g i have checked with o2 and they tell me this phone has a restriction on it and want me to take it back to where i got it but i bought it off a stall on a car boot sale and up to now i have not been able to find him please help

Have you tried jailbreaking it and then unlock with Ultrasn0w.

Do you want to stay at 3.1.3 or 4.0?

ive done jail breaking on it i run ultra snow but it wouldnt finish off and unlock the phone everything is workin on the phone except no service no calls no texts
my head is totally boxed with it

yes ultra snow wouldnt install im really pissed with it now cause its just a ipod touch now

What method did you use to jailbreak your 3G?

jailbreak me .com it put cydia on my phone so ive tried a activation sim card i bought from e bay thats done nothin
so i checked with o2 today and they said its been reported to them as lost/stolen but im going mad cause i bought the iphone in good faith but o2 till i get the right details of the owner they wont unlock it for me

Ok, can you do a restore again to 3.1.3 and then run Redsn0w 0.9.4, you will need the 3.1.2 while running Redsn0w. Redsn0w will hactivate, jailbreak for you. Then go to Cydia and install Ultrasn0w again to see if it works.

Edit : Installing Ultrasn0w has nothing to do with O2 carrier, Ultrasn0w should install unless your jailbreak is corrupted and wouldn't accept Ultrasn0w.
