Error 3194 when restore

I get 3194 error when restoring to 4.0.1. My i4 is on 4.0.1 and have shsh blobs saved for 4.0 and 4.0.1.
This happen when itunes trying to verify with apple.
I have changed the hosts file to bypass itunes servers but still have the problem.
i tried following combinations on the host file. Restarted the PC at every time the host file been edited.
1.

127.0.0.1 gs.apple.com
74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

can someone shed some light on as to how to sort the problem out.

Have you put the iphone in dfu mode when trying this?

Sorry forgot to mention it was on the dfu mode (by pressing both power and home FOR 10sec and keep holding home button after 10 sec until pc recognise the usb drivers)

You can probably use the second or third but I think you need to put a # sign In front of the 127.... One. Or google 3GS downgrade assistant. That edits the hosts for you.

I will try both but i think with previous experience I have to use my laptop to for the 3gs method as the lib....whatever file causing usb driver problems.

The 3GS downgrade assistant has nothing to do with libusb. It is just a simple little program that edits your hosts files correctly. You are thinking of tools to kick it out of recovery like irecovery that require libusb.

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com is the only one you need.

with the help of 3gs downgrade assistant. all sorted now. I have to use tiny umbrella for shsh blobs to get it out of the recovery mode.
