Should I Upgrade My 3GS Baseband Or Not
I have a 3GS currently running iOS 3.1.3 and still on the 04.26.08 baseband (and running the old Bootrom as well). I'm considering an upgrade to iOS 4.0 and I'm wondering if I should upgrade my baseband while I'm at it. I'm on T-Mobile and I do have some reception problems from time to time so I'm curious to see if upgrading the baseband will fix them (though I remain doubtful).
As far as I can see, I can jailbreak/unlock/downgrade/whatever on any baseband these days so long as I'm not on iOS 4.0.2 (which I'm not). So, should I go for it, or leave it where it's at? And if I should upgrade it, should I go all the way to 05.13.04 or should I stop short (ie. 05.11.07 or 05.12.01). I've searched around a bit but I can't find any definitive answer to this, just a lot of old posts warning people not to upgrade to 3.1.3.
Any feedback on the topic is appreciated.

Only upgrade if you want iOS 4. Even if you do, I would wait for 4.1 most likely coming out tomorrow.

Good point on 4.1, I didn't even consider how close that release is. I suppose I could go for 4.0(.1) with my old baseband and wait for a jailbreak and unlock on 4.1 to decide if I should update my baseband.
As far as the basebands go, I wonder if I can really expect better call quality, or if the upgrades are pretty simple and were mostly there to stop the unlockers. Does anyone know of a source with more info on what the baseband changes did?

Wouldnt hurt to go up to 4.0/1 but just save your SHSHs if you havent already for future use. Waiting for 4.1 is good too, just to be super safe.

The baseband is irrelevant. All basebands at this point are unlockable.
My recommendation is if youre happy where you are, stay. If you want the iOS 4 features and you are confident that you have your SHSHs and know how to utitlize them, then i recommend trying out iOS 4. its pretty cool, tho some jailbreak features arent fully working on iOS 4.Last edited by i.Annie; 09-01-2010 at 11:33 AM. OK. I'm just stuck in the old mindset that the baseband matters, but I guess the latest efforts have made that a non-issue, so I'm safe to update. I'm sure I've got the SHSHs and there aren't any crazy jailbreak features I use, so I'll probably be ok on 4.0.
Having read about the changes in 4.1, I'm excited for a jailbreak there now. I think I'll hold off for a bit and give the Dev Team a week or two to jailbreak and unlock 4.1. If it's taking a while, I'll rock 4.0 for a bit until they do. Thanks.Last edited by w33ble; 09-01-2010 at 01:50 PM.

I guess after seeing the event today 4.1 isn't coming out until the 7th.
Hopefully after seeing all the betas the DevTeam will have a jailbreak on hold for the 4.1 release.

Yeah, let's hope so, just like they had for the 4.0 release. 4.1 looks like a worthy upgrade from 4.0.
I for one hope the HDR works on the 3gs!
