Please Help me restore iPhone 4 to 4.0.1
Ok this is the deal.. I have a iphone 4 and it always had 4.0.1 and i used jailbreakme.com to jailbreak the phone. Now something happened to the phone and it will not boot up. I am able to bring th Phone to DUF mode and i tired to restore the phone back to 4.0.1 by adding 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com in the hosts file then used itunes OPTION+ selecting the 4.0.1 firmware. after all that itunes still says my device isnt eligible... Can some one Please help me... I dont wanto update it to 4.0.2 i want 4.0.1 back
Also i have a feeling my itunes is still connecting to the apple server not 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com for some reason... or did the address change
anyone?Last edited by Gobi; 08-30-2010 at 08:48 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

First of all you have to see if you have the 4.0.1 shsh blogs.
Download the latest tiny umbrella.
Select Iphone 4, 4.0.1 shsh blogs from Cydia.
Grab it and see if it downloads onto your computer. Click Display shsh to see if it is there.
If it does, then Start your tiny server from within the tiny umbrella.
You do not need to edit the hosts file at this time, or you can add the sign # infront, so it won't direct to Cydia server, you are now activating a mini server on your pc.
Put your Iphone into Recovery mode or DFU mode if it doesn't work.
Do the restore to 4.0.1 ipsw again.

08/30/2010 23:26:36.235 Processing SHSH Request...
08/30/2010 23:26:36.290 Sorry - You must connect iPhone4 to obtain SHSH...
08/30/2010 23:27:40.528 Recovery Device disconnected.
08/30/2010 23:27:55.325 TSS Server has cached the following files:
08/30/2010 23:27:55.336 Devices with ECIDs matching the above AND restoring to the exact firmware version listed above will succeed!
08/30/2010 23:27:55.349 *Please note that iPad and iPad3G share the exact same SHSH. If you see iPad above and you have an iPad3G THEY WILL WORK JUST FINE. There is just no way for me to tell the difference between iPad and iPad3G from the SHSH alone.Last edited by Gobi; 08-30-2010 at 09:31 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Did you click advanced option, you should see the iphone 4 , select the one that correspond to 4.0.1 for iphone 4
and then click save , grab from Cydia.
I am using version 4.02.03, either this version or newer is good.Last edited by iYeow; 08-30-2010 at 09:52 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Can you put it in recovery mode: Hold both the Power and Home button until it turns off. Then while holding the Home button , plug your cable in until the Itunes Cable logo comes on.
I want you to save your 4.0.1 shsh file onto your Computer, the only way is to grab from Cydia, You cannot get it from Apple as Apple has stopped signing 4.0.1
You say, you only have the apple logo on the screen, it means your iphone is in a freeze mode.Last edited by iYeow; 08-30-2010 at 10:02 PM.

I need help also in recovering to 4.0.1. My SHSH is saved, but when I tried to do the recover, I keep getting the error "The iPhone could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (3194)"
What am I doing wrong? I SO don't want to restore to 4.0.2 and lose my jailbreak until 4.1 is released and jailbroken.
EDIT - OK, it looks like hopefully things are going to work out now. I was re-downloading the firmware into a different location and used that new location to grab from. I guess the other file was bad or something.Last edited by engelke2010; 08-30-2010 at 10:05 PM. Reason: Status Update

SHSH SUCCESSFULLY saved! [Click Here to Open] 08/30/2010 23:58:58.835 You have saved your SHSH locally and the request was sent to CYDIA. This means that CYDIA DOES have your SHSH. Do NOT bug semaphore about the Cydia home page showing this version.
Now what do i do?

Alright now from tiny Umbrellla, device/ version select iphone 4, 4.0.1 , Start your tss server, and do the option + restore or shift + restore to 4.0.1 ipsw which you have already donwloaded. You iphone must be still in Recovery mode ( Itunes Cable Logo)
You 4.0.1 ipsw must correspond exactly the one shown in Tiny Umbrella.Last edited by iYeow; 08-30-2010 at 10:13 PM.
