Default How to restore to 4.0.1

    iPhone: 3GS (new bootrom)
    Firmware: 4.0.1
    JB: jailbreakme

My gf's having a bunch of problems with her jailbroken phone. I'm about to restore it.

When she jailbroke, she pressed the "Make my life easier button". If I restore with shift-restore and then select the 4.0.1 ipsw I just downloaded, am I in business? Will I be able to jailbreak with jailbreakme? Am I missing anything?

    Thanks for your help!

    that should work.
if not make sure you have tinyumbrella installed to set itunes on the "right path" to stop it errorring you for updating to the wrong firmware
Being an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

Run Cydia and check at the top. It needs to list SHSH for 4.0.1 in order for you to be able to restore to that version.

make sure you put the phone into DFU mode(not recovery mode)

You need to edit the host file on your computer and add this line:
    74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

then when you shift click restore, it will look at the the cydia server(instead of apple) for the stored SHSH on it.

then click the firwmare you want to restore too.

when its done installing, you will still be in DFU mode, but the process will be done.

then you will need the tinyumbrella program, and click the button kick the phone out of recovery mode.

then you should be all good and can re-jailbreak at jailbreakme.com
