Default how to go from 3.1.3 to 4.0.2 without loosing jailbreak?

as you can tell im a newbie at this. I currently have a 3g that is jailbroken on using redsnow running the 3.1.3 os. I'm wanting to update to the the latest jailbroken os. could someone point me to a "how to" or tell me exactly how i do this?

do i need to just go to Itunes and update the os from there then rejailbreak it or what?

Find a custom 4.0.2 and then shift/restore to it in iTunes.

You can JB 4.0.2 on 3G without having a previous JB.

    Update to 4.0.2 via iTunes
    Download 4.0 ISPW from Google
Open redsn0w, point to 4.0 and Voila!
    Nothing beats the iPhone.

You probably downloaded the wrong version ipsw.

    Go to jailbreakmatrix.com
    Look under 3G, 4.0.2 section.
    Follow instructions.
