Just jailbreak it on 4.0? 4.0.1 didn't introduce much anyways.
If I somehow helped you, press thanks

There are a couple other ways to jailbreak for the 3GS, but they are a little more complicated then I care to elaborate on, mostly depending on your bootrom and if you have shshs for 3.1.2 or 3.1.3. I'd suggest just going to a starbucks and using their wifi to jailbreak to be honest.

i have the old bootrom and i have no shshs because i just bought it and i bought it with 4.0 already on it. and i have wifi at my house, the router is literally within arms reach so thats why i think it needs to be update or atleast restored but i cant do anything because itune isnt signing anything but 4.02 and theres no way to jailbreak 4.02

Do other wifi devices connect fine? Tinker with the security settings? Also try to reset network settings on the iPhone.

What?? That's kinda strange. Try messing with your router's security settings? (if it's on wep, change it to wpa, or the other way around, etc)

Eeeee, try some other routers if you can, I'd guess it's more likely to be a router issue than iPhone, but I could be totally wrong.

just don't do anything naughty!
