Are any of the 4.0's unlockable for the 3G?

I have a 16GB 3G for sale and was wanting to download the latest operating system that can be unlocked as it currently has 3.1.3 on it. I want to unlock it because I have someone who's possibly interested that is with T-Mobile. I was hoping one of the 4.0's was unlockable (4.0, 4.0.1, 4.0.2).

Yeah, I believe they all are. If you have shshs for 4.0.1, use that. If not, I don't think 4.0.2 updated the baseband. Someone confirm that please? If you do go the 4.0.2 direction, you can just JB with redsn0w.

Ok just to clarify, 4.0.1 is unlockable but not 4.0.2?

The baseband shouldnt be updated on 4.0.2 so it should still be unlockable. But on a 3G its actually perfectly fine being on 3.1.x. iOS 4 doesnt run well on 3G phones.

Your baseband was upgraded and cannot be downgraded. But the latest baseband should be 5.13.xx (forgot the last digits, sorry) so its still unlockable.

By iOS 4 doesnt run well means on a 3G it causes lags freezes and crashes quite frequently. In my experience the problems built up in a span of 2 weeks so I downgraded back to 3.1.3. Even with everything disabled and removed language packs and disabled launch daemons, iOS 4 made my 3G crap out all the time.

see i dont understand this... my phone is a little slow, but it does run everything else fine..... ohh well.... but, just for a lot of people having problems on the 3G with 4.0+ i would suggest staying down there as well

3.1.3 is defo the way to go on a 3G.

The phone has 3.1.3 OS and 05.12.01 baseband.

So leave it as is and just unlock it? What's the best unlocking software for 3.1.3 3G?

i would more then likely say that ultrasn0w or something is your best bet..... but i would google if you are unsure

Your 2 options are ultrasn0w and blackra1n. I would suggest ultrasn0w.

it is just the unlocking tool that you download from cydia

It will unlock all the latest basebands on all devices except for the iPhone 2G which can be unlocked with BootNeuter. Knowledge is power!

And if it's too slow 4.1 coming next week is said to fix it, and if you have any problems now you can disable native multitasking and wallpaper with zToggle, and use backgrounder/winterboard.

1) Will you be able to activate the phone? Either borrow any legit sim or use a phonebook sim?
2) This is a 3gs?
3) Is it old or new bootrom?
