My iPhone went into Recovery mode after a "successful Jailbreak" and I haven't been able to recover it. I am trying to bring it back with TinyUmbrella but I don't have any SHSH saved since it is a brand new device (iPhone 4 with 4.0.2). When I open TU it tells me I have 0 files in Cache and it doesn't give me the option to "Save My SHSH". Please advise how to continue.
Can I directly press "Kick Device out of Recovery" button?

You can try to kick it out of recovery. Do you need to unlock or are you on official carrier?

I will need the unlock, but I don't think there is any available yet, is there?
I pressed the Kick out of Recovery button, but nothing happened. The phone is still on Recovery Mode and I can't even shut it down. Any hints?

If you havent gone to 4.1 yet that you will be able to unlock. To do so you will need to update with the help of tiny umbrella so that your baseband is preserved. You can use this guide:iPhone 4.1 Upgrade: Retain Original Baseband Unlock [Tutorial] | The Apple Press

After you get to 4.1 just use limera1n or greenpoison to jailbreak, then install ultrasn0w from cydia to unlock.

It worked great!!! I am new at iPhone, but with the information available here in modmyi.com and your help it was easy.

I did it exactly the way you told me. I had my iPhone 4 4.0.2, so first I upgraded it to 4.1 with TinyUmbrella 4.1.6, preserving my baseband 01.59.00. Then I use greenpois0n to Jailbreak, after that I installed Cydia and from there I was able to unlock with ultrasn0w.

Many thanks from a happy new iPhone user!!!

    Default Should I?
    Hi!
I have a 3GS with 05.11.07 baseband jailbreaked with snowbreeze to iOS 4.0.
I have all SHSH's saved starting from 3.1.2
I want to upgrade to 4.02 (just for upgrading the baseband)
After upgrading to 4.02 I want to upgrade further to 4.1 while preservirg 4.02 baseband and then jailbreak with greenpoison or limerain and unlock with ultrasnow.
Is it true that if I do not have the original sim from AT&T I won't be able to jailbreak with these tools? My Iphone is not factory unlocked and I do not have an appropriate SIM.

Do you think that I can do all these and still have a working Iphone after it?

    Thanks.

If you are jailbroken with Sn0wbreeze now just use the newest version to make a custom 4.1 (no need to go to 4.0.2). Just keep your baseband at 5.11.07 and install a custom 4.1, no need to go up a baseband.

Just another quick question. Is there some improvement in the newer basebands? I mean is apple releasing new basebands just to fix the exploits or there are also some functional improvements? Is it worth upgrading to a newer baseband or just keep to an older one because there is no difference?

    Thanks.

Not too sure but I haven't seen any differences.

Default Problems with CYDIA and SHSH
I did the make my life easier in August, and up until a week or so ago, I had the message that several of my SHSHs were saved. Now I don't this message. Anyone else having these issues?

Your SHSH are still there dont worry. Whenever a new jailbreak comes out cydia gets hit harder so the display of SHSH is taken down for a while. They should be displayed again at some point.

you can always use tiny umbrella to make sure if you want.

I have a 3GS, on 3.0.1, wanting to at least get to 4.0.1 SHSHs are on file, can I use tiny umbrella to restore, or is the baseband preservation only for iphone 4?

Baseband preservation is only for iPhone 4 with tiny umbrella. However if you have SHSH for 4.0.1 then you can use tiny umbrella to restore to that and still jailbreak and unlock. If you have a old bootrom 3GS you can also use a custom 4.1 firmware to preserve your baseband (check sn0wbreeze to make one) and restore to that to preserve your baseband as long as you are jailbroken now with redsn0w/blackra1n/pwnage tool.

Thanks for your reply- When I open tinyumbrella, nothing happens. The "Save my SHSH" button isn't an option to press. I can start the server, but nothing else.

But since I'm jailbroken and unlocked, I could follow this method to update
How to Jailbreak iPhone 3GS to 4.0 with Sn0wbreeze | Windows
Does it matter that I'm only on 3.0.1? My baseband is 04.26.08.

    Thanks

You have to run tiny umbrella as administrator and plug in our device to save SHSH.

Yes you can skip all this SHSH business and just make a 4.1 custom ipsw with sn0wbreeze and restore to that. Ultrasn0w will unlock that baseband just fine.

I ran the f0orecast tool from Snowbreeze, and for Jailbreakable, it says only with SHSH blobs. Does this mean snowbreeze will not work to update to 4.1?

If you have old bootrom you can restore to a custom 4.1 since you are jailbroken already, no need for SHSH. You can download idetector to make sure you have old bootrom (I am pretty sure you do though).

So if I restore to 4.0.1, using tiny umbrella, the baseband is only updated to the what the baseband was at 4.0.1? It is not updated to the 4.1 baseband?
