    Exclamation Help jailbreak/update from 3.1.2 to 4.0/4.0.1

    Hi!

I've been searching on the interwebs for a solution to my problem, but couldn't find it / overlooked it..

So, I currently have an iPhone 3GS version 3.1.2 (7D11), jailbroken by Blackra1n (tethered).

I want to update to the 4.0/4.01 firmware, but if I want to update it on itunes I can only get the 4.0.2 version..
And I've searched on internet for some the 4.0/4.0.1 restore files but I can't use them (I get an error).

Now is my question to you guys, how can I get from 3.1.2 to 4.0 or 4.0.1?

Please reply and ignore my bad english..
    Thanks

If you have SHSH backed up for 4.0/4.0.1 then you can restore to them using the iPhone firmware umbrella. You can see what SHSH you have by going into cydia, it should tell you at the top of the first page.

I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say (or maybe I don't understand what you mean).
But I'm trying to upgrade from 3.1.2 to a jailbreakable IOS 4.0

I understand perfectly what you are trying to do. You want to go to 4.0 or 4.0.1 so that you can use jailbreakme.com but since Apple has stopped signing those firmwares you would be forced to update to 4.0.2 which cannot be jailbroken right now on a new bootrom 3GS (which is what you have if you have a tethered blackra1n jailbreak). The only way you can update to 4.0 or 4.0.1 is if you have SHSH for those firmwares. So you need to check cydia and see what it says at the top of the first page then proceed from there.

Ow, I'm so sorry :s. I totaly didn't understand lol.
So euhm, it says 'This device has SHSHs on file for iPhone OS / iOS: 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1'.
Can you maybe give me a link to where everything is explained what to do ?

So you are good to go. Just google iPhone firmware umbrella, download and run it (run as admin if on windows). When your iPhone shows up click on advanced then choose either 4.0 or 4.0.1 for your iPhone to save the shsh locally from cydia. Once saved click start server then open iTunes and restore to 4.0 or 4.0.1.

Do a backup first so that you can restore that backup after.

I assume you have a 3GS or iPhone 4 right. You need either a AT&T sim or a phonebook sim like it says in my other thread. Without them you cannot activate.

Either put in a legit SIM, or a phonebook sim and activate through iTunes. I'm assuming you originally activated your phone and know hoe beacuse I don't have an iPhone.

orite.. i wanna jailbreak to 4.0 using tinyumbrealla..
I have 3gs jail broken firmware 3.1 using blackrain, old bootrom
I did all the steps in X98car's [How-To] tutorial for tiny umbrella:
i have SHSH for all from 3.1 - 4.0.1 on Cydia
on tiny umbrella i saved my shsh for 4.0. I pressed display SHSHs to know for sure that i saved 4.0 shsh and yes it showed that i had.
i downloaded firmware 4.0 from modmyi download section
    i pressed start TSS server
on itunes i hold shift and click restore and open previously downloaded firmware 4.0 for 3gs
it says extracting software then contacting iphone blah blah...then unknown error (3014)
could it be because im using old version of itunes 9.0.3.15?
i was worried to update itunes because people previously said that updated versions of itunes may make jailbreaking harder.

I don't think 4.0 works on anything other than iTunes 9.2, actually I'm pretty sure... Why aren't you updated?!
