Just bought Iphone 4, loaded with 4.0.2 please help!!!
Ok, I just bought an Iphone 4, it was already loaded with 4.0.2.
I've read about downgrading on all of the previous threads and tried it by downloading the firmware for 4.0.1 named iPhone3,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw.
Then putting my phone in DFU mode by:
1. Connect the phone to the computer and run iTunes.
2. Turn off the phone.
3. Press and hold both power button and home button for 10 seconds.
4. Release power button but keep holding home button for another 10 seconds.
After hitting shift and clicking restore in itunes, I select the file on my desktop. It extracts, then starts verifying with apple, does this for a while then i get error 3194. What can I do? I went into hosts file and put a #in front of 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com.
Please help.

Reason: error
so then why could you not put "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com " in the host file and it would connect to the guys server? In reading that link, it seems that is what he's doing with that address in hosts. Is that not correct?
Because shsh's for YOUR phone would have to be stored on that server in order for it to work. Shsh's are unique to each device. If the phone came brand new with 4.0.2 on it the shsh's won't have been saved for lower firmwares.
