Default Necessary for phone 3G to save SHSH?

Um...I'm not too sure where to post this question but I'll post it here anyway as a safe bet. Is it necessary now for a JB iPhone 3G running on a 3.1.2 fw to save the SHSH blob with Cydia? Or can I just restore using a 3.1.2 custom firmware? My iPhone is currently stuck at the apple logo and I would like to stay on the 3.1.2 fw. Any help would be great. Thank you in advance.

You can always restore to 3.1.x on a 3G without SHSHs.

You only need SHSHs for 4.0+. its too late to grab 4.0 and 4.0.1 anyway...

Which one would be better and cleaner? Restore using a factory firmware from iclarified or using a custom firmware? Or will both do a good job. My iphone is unlock and jailbroken by blackra1n but it is running on the factory firmware not a custom firmware. By restoring my iphone with the 3.1.2 custom firmware, I will be staying on 3.1.2 FW right? My iphone will not update to the new 4.0.2 FW right...?

Doesn't matter both are fine assuming you create your own custom fw. I personally don't like using somebody else's custom fw but that's just me

shift+restore will prevent from upgrading to 4.0.2.

I didn't create my own custom firmware. I thought about using the activated firmware from this site.

Download Custom Firmware 3.1.2 IPSW – Jailbreak, Activate, Unlock iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS [Mac and Windows] | iLikeMyiPhone

Perhaps I should use the one from iclarified. Those are the factory firmwares right? Thank you in advance.
