4.02 to 4.01 or 4.0?

hello guys i got an iphone from a person that traded me the almost brand new 3g for my jailbroken ipod... the firmware is 4.02 and ive tried everything to jailbreak it and to downgrade it.. how do i downgrade to 4.0 or 4.01 firmware? i get a message saying "the iphone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible" after i use itunes and i browse for my 4.0 firmware with the shift button.. ive tried everything and nothing. youtube and google havent helped me yet =[

you need your shsh blobs i believe. But you probably don't have them so you can't downgrade.

You need SHSHs to downgrade to 4.0. You should downgrade to 3.1.x for a 3G anyway, it runs better. Just shift+restore to it. If you get error 1011 1013 or 1015 its good, you did it correctly. Just kick it out of recovery mode with Recboot and jailbreak after. You should be up and running then.

A 3G is jailbreakable on 4.0.2 with redsn0w 0.9.5b-5 and apple is still signing 4.0.1 so you could downgrade to that and use jailbreakme

so use mini umbrella with the 3.1 firmware and kick it out of recovery?

Shift+restore to 3.1.2

Kick outta recovery mode after restore error 1011 1013 or 1015 with either TinyUmbrella or Recboot.

Jailbreak with Redsn0w 0.9.3.
