Restoring to 3.1.2

I want to restore my iPhone to non-jailbroken 3.1.2 because I'm taking it to the Genius Bar for a bad mic. Do I just restore it to the 3.1.2 IPSW downloaded from that site (I can't remember the site name but it's the one where you can download old FW from) ?

If it's already 3.1.2 Just do a restore with a clean 3.1.2 FW and your good to go.

3GS requires SHSHs. You can restore to 4.0.1 without SHSHs. Dont upgrade to 4.0.2 just in case.

If it is a 3G or 2G then you can shift+restore to 3.1.2 without a problem.

I want to restore to 3.1.2 downloaded from the site. When I attempt to SHIFT-click and restore I get the 3198 error. Keep in mind that I already made sure I have SHSH file on Cydia and locally. The only thing I'm not doing is going to the DFU screen. Is that an essential part of this process?
