Wanting to upgrade from 3.1.3. to iOS 4.0 ONLY!

Title suggests it all; as of 3.1.3. lately, things have been pretty buggy/glitchy. I can't seem to sync photos [maybe iTunes issue] and the app. updates are bugging the hell outta me.


I want to upgrade my iphone 3G/3.1.3./BB-04.26.08/unlocked & jailbroken to strictly iOS 4.0. I read around that apple cut off all connections with 4.0 and under firmwares even though I downloaded the files on my macbook. Can anyone point me to the right guide? I will gladly appreciate it.

If you dont have your SHSHs, you cant go to 4.0. You can still go to 4.0.1 since Apple hasnt stopped signing that yet.

You should back up your SHSHs now if you havent.

I wouldnt recommend going to iOS 4 on a 3G. The performance is terrible. Trust me, Im an avid iPhone tweaker and even with all the possible speed tweaks aside from VM's, my 3G still lagged and froze frequently. You should probably stay where you are.

I actually taught myself to upgrade it 4.0; I hate Itunes/Apple so much at the moment but anyways, I TRIED sticking through the glitchy 4.0 for my 3G and through my basic knowledge, I still think 3.1.3. is the best for 3G users. 4.0 is just too much for the 3G.

Keep in mind the 3GS process is far different from the 3G. (for downgrading that is)

^ yes, SHSHs must be saved for all firmwares for 3GS, unlike the 3G where it only needs them for 4.0.x.

only with shsh's, if no shsh's, will have to use a custom 4.0 firmware to get there

so, if i wanted to go to 3.1.2 on and iphone 3G what would i ahve to do..... i have umbrella adnn cydia tells me that i have SHSH on file for 4.0..... so i go to umbrella and get the 4.0 from cydia..... i try to restore to 4.0 and it wont let me..... any ideas why this is happening..... i will even try to make a video and post on youtube and then give the link to it..... 4.0.1 is messing with my wifi.... i had to go because something messed up my phone..... so any help would be great

For 3.1.2 just shift+restore to it. Get error 101x and just kick it out with Recboot. Then jailbreak again with Redsn0w 0.9.3.

For 4.0 youll have to change your host files. In the guides section, theres a guide on how to restore with SHSHs.

Just go to 3.1.2. Its better for 3G phones anyway.

Im assuming you have a 3G as thats what the OP stated. If you dont, and you have a 3GS...youll have to use SHSHs for 3.1.2 as well.

i have changed my hosts file..... 4.0 ran realy good on my phone..... and yes i have a 3G.... but i have tried to get 3.1.2 and it hasnt even out my phone in recovery mode..... it just says that it wont let me do it.... can it be done with the most recent iTunes?

this is what has been added to my hosts file:

Like I said, for 3.1.2 you must shift+restore, receive error 1011, 1013, or 1015, then use Recboot to kick it out of recovery mode. If you do not receive any of those errors after the restore, it wont work.

I dont know if the newest iTunes is hindering you, but Ive never updated my iTunes past what is required for iOS 4 (not 4.0.1 or 4.0.2). I downgraded to 3.1.3, dont think that makes a huge diff but if youre having trouble with 3.1.2, maybe youll wanna try 3.1.3.

i cant downgrade anything..... i have my SHSH's for 4.0 from cydia as i have mentioned and i cant downgrade..... i have followed many guides and nothing has helped....

I have no experience with using SHSHs cuz I truly believe the 3G phones should stay on 3.1.x. I had iOS 4 when it first was released.

Youll get your WIFI back if you restore and jailbreak correctly.

Get back down to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3, thats your easiest option.

I already said, you dont need SHSHs to downgrade to 3.1.2 or 3.1.3 on an iPhone 3G. You only need the SHSHs for 4.0.

If you actually read my instructions carefully and followed them, youd be able to downgrade. I dont see why you would be having any trouble if you have a 3G.

I dont think you understand. 4.0 doesnt just run poorly on a 3G, it runs awfully.

If youre really determined to go to 4.0, might as well go to 4.0.1. Apple is still signing that, you wont need SHSHs for that either. Its no different than 4.0, you can still jailbreak it with jailbreakme.
