reinstalling same FW?

A couple of days ago I bought my wife a used 3G. Installed 4.0.1 Jb it. But I want to do a fresh install of 4.0.1. The phone was a co-workers, we didnt do a complete wipe of it before I started messing with it. and it is realy slow.
Do I need anything special to do this? Just grab the 4.0.1 file shift/restore to that file? Or no? I did the cydia shs save, I also have tiny umbrella. But do I need them if Im going to the same FW?

A fresh install won't speed things up. I would recommend redoing the jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.5-b5 and make sure the mulitasking and background tabs are UNCHECKED. You don't need to re-install Cydia either.

I think you'll have to use the shsh w/cydia, won't you? I don't think Apple will sign a 4.0.1 FW.

You should downgrade the phone to 3.1.2. This will speed it up significantly. iOS 4/4.0.1 will slow a 3G down significantly.

It's an iPhone 3G.. shouldn't matter.

Thanks, I'll try and mess with it. I'm just new to the 3g. I've been using my 3gs since 3.1, and before that I've only had a 2g right before that.
I dont think I can down grade to 3.1.3 as I just got that phone the other day. So no shh files untill 4.0.1.
Of it matters I used jailbreakme to do that phone.
