Default Upgrade from 3.1.2 (tethered) to 4.0

    Hello

I am trying to upgrade one of our phones from a tethered 3.1.2 jailbreak to 4.0. (to escape the tether)

I am using pwnage and created the updated IPSW to restore in itunes.

I have successfully completed this from v3 to v4,

While trying to put the tethered 3.1.2 into DFU mode it needs to be rebooted with blackrain, which kicks it out of DFU mode.

I have also put the phone in restore mode to just do a normal upgrade, still no joy.

    Any ideas what to do?

Well, why are you using the Pwnage tool? It would be much easier to just restore to latest in iTunes, and then just go to Jailbreakme.com to jailbreak!

if you have a tethered jailbreak then pwnagetool will do you no good since your phone will not accept custom firmware because it is a new bootrom 3GS, as long as you have your shsh's for 4.0 you can edit your host file and update to official 4.0 and use jailbreakme to jailbreak

And unless you've previously saved your blobs for 4.0 and 4.0.1, you're not going to be able to install those.

EDIT: At this very moment, Apple is still signing 4.0.1, so you can get the blobs for that. I'd say do that as quickly as possible.
