back up question

if i back up my iphone thru itunes does it also back up the firmware or just the contacts, photos etc? i'm running 3.1.2. should i experience a problem can i still restore it to 3.1.2 assuming that i did not update my firmware. or would itunes automatically upgrade to 4.x? thanks.

Backup (not to be confused with restore) will backup contacts, messages, a list of installed apps, photo's etc.

i see, thanks for clarifying. if i restore now, using itunes would it automatically upgrade me to 4.x? eventhough i did not download the 4.x firmware?

If you press update it would. I would need to know which device your on to talk you thru restore to old fw's.

currently running on 3.1.2 and have not updated to 4.x. if i restore, it would bring me back to stock 3.1.2 right? assuming that i did not press update on itunes.
