Mobile Terminal isn't working yet
So I found JailbreakMe today and did the easiest JB of my life on my 4.0.1 iPhone 3GS. Then I went to change the pword and installed Mobile Terminal and I, like so many others I'm finding out via Google, can't get the prog to work. Apparently there's a new version of it that's not on Cydia yet, and I dl'ed the file, but I have NO CLUE how to get it on my phone from a PC. Any tips?
While we're at it, can anyone help me remember the name of the awesome prog I used to use that allowed me to file transfer with my phone via an IP address the phone assigned and I could access via my PC?
Thanks in advance!

There is an unofficial version 4.2.6 that you can download and install manually. To do that you would need to ssh into the phone, so the answer to your second question is winscp
. Or the unofficial mt can be installed from a certain repo in cydia that can't be mentioned here. X

I found an article describing what you're talking about but I have no idea what SSH or WinSCP is.
Can the unofficial MT repo be pm'ed to me?

SSH is a means of connecting to your iphone and acces it's file system through yoour PC. Winscp is a prog you install on your computer to do it, or if your on a mac cyberduck. You'll have to install openssh from cydia first though. PM sent

Two things. I installed openssh from Cydia, and installed winscp on my PC. How do I get them to talk to one another?!? I can open WinSCP but I have no idea what the host name is or anything.
Second thing, the pm you sent me fell victim to word filters on this site, I just got ******* instead of what you tried to send. Thanks for trying though.

Ok the repo starts with x. Google should help with that. For winscp the host name is your phones ip address. The user name is root and the password is alpine.

A very good tutorial on how to install the new mobile terminal. If you need to know how to SSH into your device find your iPhone's IP address in SBSettings or WiFi setting. In winscp enter the IP for host name, "root" for user, "alpine" for password and login. I have a full tutorial on SSHing as well as using VNC on my website here.

Well knowing "root" and "alpine" along with the IP would sure have been helpful in that tutorial!
I've hobbled together the rest and managed to finish the process. Thanks again to all for the help.
BTW, on my way to get an iPad tonight. 64GB 3G model for ~$250, brand new in box. Good deal?

You can use the following Cydia repo to install MobileTerminal v472, that supports iOS 4.x
