iPhone 3G upgrading

Got an issue here, iTunes goes to "call home" to apple, it's really sauriks server, for the update and iTunes randomly quits on me. I wanted to do the 3G before I did the 3GS. I downloaded the ipsw files from Download iOS 4.0 Firmware Update for iPhone and iPod Touch - direct download ios4, direct download iphone os 4.0, download ios 4.0, download iphone os 4.0, ios 4, iOS 4 compatibility, ios 4 update, ios 4 upgrade, ios 4.0, ios 4.0 firmware, ios 4.0 re

Macbook Pro running iTunes 9.0.2 on Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and an iPhone 3G.

Any help before I go to 3Gs for upgrades?

iTunes quitting is not related to hosts pointing to saurik, I also have hosts pointing to saurik. Try re-installing the latest version of itunes.

Already tried the re-install of iTunes with no luck. I'm not a n00b and I'm not as good as the awesome people that provide this stuff but I'm above average I've been told.
