iPhone 3G 4.0 firmware jailbreak & unlock?

I'm sorry if this is such a noob question but after 2 hours of struggling I'm completely lost. I just got a really good deal on an iPhone 3g so I bought it. It is currently running 4.0 with modem firmware 05.13.04, and I'm trying to unlock for T-Mobile. I attempted to download redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 but when I would try to open it I would get an error which read: "You cannot open the application "redsn0w" because it is not supported on this system / architecture." Then I downloaded Pwnagetool 4.01 and the only two options that come up are the 3GS and itouch. Where can I go from here?

Well you need to go to OUR download section and download redsn0w 9.5B5-5 for the correct operating system. You probably downloaded the Mac version for Windows or vice versa. After you run redsn0w you will have Cydia so you can download ultrasn0w to unlock. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply...I just downloaded RedSn0w 0.9.5b5-5 from this website, and still I get an error which says "You can't open the application "redsn0w" because it is not supported on this architecture." I also tried the megaupload mirror which gave me the same result. I know that I am downloading the correct format mac format also. Any ideas?
