4.0.1 using up all my system memory

It uses all my system memory and I get warnings that I'm running out of memory so when I installed jailbreak apps they all crash

Restore and setup as new phone. Don't restore a backup until after you jailbreak it.

OK..I restored, then jail broke it, then synced with my iTunes but it still says that I only have 12% of my system memory free before installing any jb apps
