Default terrible reception after 4.0.1 upgrade

have an iphone 3gs which i updated from 3.1.2 to 4.0.1 jailbroke it from the site and installed ultrasn0w unlock.
since then my signal is one bar almost the time
is there something wrong with the unlock or 4.0.1?

got rid of unlock as i dont need it at the moment and still same.
must be that crap algorithm they implemented when everyone with an iphone 4 was b1tching about the signal.
so hopefully its just not displayed correctly but it is actually there.

I had the same before I jb. 4.0 was fine and quick! Then I updated to 4.0.1 and my iPhone ended up with loads of issues and it's still the same. Trying to find a way to get it back to 4.0

It's supposed to be like that. 4.0.1 changed the way the bars are displayed. They now give a more accurate display of your signal strength. For instance a signal strength of -105dbvm would give you 4 or 5 bars on lower fw's. Now that same signal strength gives you 1 or 2. In short your signal is the same you just have less bars to show for it.

yeah thats what i thought. should have taken the blue pill...
on the other hand the device is actually faster at launching apps and stuff

also do you have to get new settings from carrier? as i cannot connect to anything using 3g anymore even though i downloaded the updated carrier settings.

vodafone. seems that the ultrasnow unlock is fooking things up. with it installed i cant even use 3g keep getting no service but with it gone i can.
all in all not impressed with ios 4. nothing new you really need. folders suck since you cant add more than 12 so had to install categories anyway, multitasking you could have anyway with jb...
how do you exit an app completely when pressing the home button (without killing it from the manager or sbsettings)?

If your on an official carrier you don't need ultrasn0w. Infinifolder let's you put as many apps in a folder as you want. The only way to kill a running app is in the manager or in sbsettings.

Did they add an extra signal strength bar in 4.0.1 or is it just my imagination?

Nope still 5 bars. But they're taller now and a little more spaced out, so they LOOK bigger. That sneaky Apple trying to optical illusion us.

I knew something was different! I get good signals wherever I am so it's no big deal. I am just used to seeing the old bars
