it still didn't work with a changed password... Connection timed out.

Should I try ifunbox? Anybody use that to SSH?

Ifunbox will work. You'll have to install afc2add from cydia to allow the USB connection. Did you change both the root and mobile passwords? Open mobileterminal type in passwd. It will prompt you for old password. Try "alpine" first. If it doesn't accept it then try the one you put in before. When it asks for the new password just enter in what you want it to be, and again for confirm. Then you'll be back at a flashing prompt. Type "login root". It will ask for a password. Again try "alpine" first. If it accepts that you know it hasn't been changed yet. Then type in passwd, and enter what you want the password to be. Confirm it, then you can close mt.

Now make sure your iPhone and computer are both connected to the same local network. Open winscp on your computer. Either use sbsettings or go into settings on the phone to see what ip address the phone is using(it should be 192.x.x.x). Type that in where it says host in winscp. The user name you'll put in will be root, and the password will be whatever you changed it to(or alpine if you couldn't get it changed). Set the protocol type to scp. Make sure your phone is unlocked(open to the springboard), then hit login.

Thank you so much for your help, I couldn't get the wifi SHH to work so I had to resort to ifunbox. But I appreciate all your help, one last noob question when I get cracked apps for cydia or whatever where do I drag it to? :-/
