From spirit jailbreak 3.1.3 to jailbreakme 4.0.1
Please help, new user here. My iPhone 3GS, 3.1.3 has been jailbreak with spirit. I have the following question,
1.) Can I upgrade to OS 4.0.1?
2.) What does it means when Cydia says "This device has shshs
on file for iphone OS / iOS 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1"?
(Does it means that I won't be able to downgrade to anything
before 3.1.3?)
3.) When I use FOrecast, it say the following,
Serial#: 87952Hxxxxx
Baseband: 05.12.01
Bootloader: 6.4
Model: MC132
Jailbreakable? Only if SHSH is saved.
Unlockable: NO
Tethered?: Maybe - Depends if Refurb..(Can't see the rest)
4.) I am unable to download AutoSHSH. The links provided don't
work. ( iH8sn0w.com | Jailbreak your iPod touches and iPhones )
How can I be sure that it is saved in Cydia?

1) Do it!
2) Yes, but it doesn't matter.
3) Don't worry about it.
4) Don't worry about it.
Just go to the site and jailbreak! The servers are overloaded at the moment, but you could try if you want.

Yes, you can upgrade to 4.0.1 and then use JailbreakMe to jailbreak it. Now, as far as the SHSHs are concerned, you are correct, 3.1.3 is the oldest version of OS that you will be able to restore to. When you restore/update the OS on an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad, Apple has to "sign" the software in order for it to be installed. The stop signing each OS a day or two after the new OS is released. By saving those SHSH you can spoof iTunes into believing Apple is signing them when in fact you are just rerouting the transmissions to a third party source (either Saurik's server, your own computer via FW Umbrella, etc.).
By the way, your phone IS unlockable despite what f0recast is telling you.

Did you ever edit your hosts file to point to Saurik's server rather than Apple's? If you haven't, then Apple's server could have just been down when you were trying.
By the way, try spelling properly and using proper grammar (it's trying to update, not trying 2 update). People are much more likely to help if you can present your questions and problems in an adult manner.

Go into iTunes and click update once you've plugged your phone in. iTunes will automatically update your iphone to 4.0.1 and then just go to JailbreakMe on your iphone to jailbreak it. If you are not on AT&T or a native iPhone carrier then you will have to find a way to activate the phone before you can go to JailbreakMe on the iphone

Thanks for the prompt reply. Just to be sure once again. This means that I can safely go ahead and do the following now;
1.) Restore my iPhone using iTunes,
2.) Update to the lastest OS 4.0.1 using iTunes,
3.) Jailbreak via JailbreakMe from iPhone directly.
Just in case something go wrong, how do I revert to where I am now?

I'd just stick where you are for a couple more days. There's no rush to upgrade until it's clear there are no serious bugs in the jailbreakme.
You can go to 4.0.1 anytime since you have SHSH on file even if apple release 4.1, so will be able to upgrade anytime.

Same method/instructions as this:
Restore iPhone 3GS to 3.1.2 Using SHSHs on File with Cydia | Windows
Just use 3.1.3 firmware instead of 3.1.2. Do you know you have them on file? Tiny umbrella will tell you.

Yeah, you can save them on your computer with TinyUmbrella. Cydia saves them as well but you should always have your own backup.

I am lost.
I cannot post new thread.
Recently my signal bars is replaced by numbers. The numbers goes up and down just like signal bars would. What did I do(I totally have no idea)? How do I get back my signal bars?
