How to jailbreak 4.0.1 on 3G?

So im on 3.1.2 and i would like to update to 4.0 software. Problem is i dont know how to restore it to 4.0.

I first tried this guide:

Downloaded 4.0 from there but i cannot restore it to 4.0 within redsnow or itunes.

I tried shift+drag ispw in itunes, and it says apple cannot verify it as there own firmware.

I was going to download this firmware 4.0.1 since they said it is a official firmware from apple, but after looking at the site and the who is it is a advertising company, NOT apple.

So can someone point me to a 4.0.1 official firmware? I think i can get it from there.

Id recommend staying on 3.1.2. Its better fit for the 3G. If you do insist on going up to 4.0 (I downgraded from it, it hurt my phone more than it did good) then 4.0.1 is ok.

The reason you couldnt go up to 4.0 is cuz you probably dont have your SHSHs saves for 4.0. You can freely go to 3.1.x withour SHSHs but 4.0 requires it now.

Your best option is to just hit update in iTunes and go up to 4.0.1. You can then JB with Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. Just make sure you have the 4.0 ipsw for Redsn0w, it wont read 4.0.1.

You can get a working 4.0 ipsw from the Downloads section here on MMi. Make sure to use a browser that downloads it properly and not into a .zip format. Such browsers that work well include Opera, Firefox, and Google Chrome.

i made a mistake and upgraded to 4.1 thinking i was getting 4.0.1, anyway i manage to downgrade back to 3.1.2. however i wanted some of the neat stuff available on 4.0.1. do u think its worth it to upgrade to 4.0.1. i got the word j/b for iphone 4 is being release on 10.10.10 @10:10 am.... keep the faith

GreenPoisson is for 4th generation Idevices on A4 chips.
Your best bet to jailbreak at 4.1 is to use Limera1n, beware this jailbreak is still new and has some bugs in it.
