Prep for selling my iPhone...
Hello, I have a 32GB 3GS that I will be selling soon for mostly likely an HTC Evo (never thought I'd be saying that, lol) or maybe an iPhone HD if it really impresses me.
iPhone specs:
3.1.2 iPhone OS
05.11.07 Modem firmware
Currently jailbroken and not unlocked.
What is the best way for me to restore my phone to factory condition, then re-jailbreak and unlock?
If I do "Erase all contents and settings" from the iPhone, will it restore it back to 3.1.2? Then I can just use BlackRa1n and unlock via Cydia?
Or is it more/less complicated? Thanks.

The 'erase all ...'-button is pretty much like pressing 'restore' in iTunes. You can only restore to 3.1.2 if you pressed the 'Make my life easier'-button in Cydia while 3.1.2 was being signed by Apple. Since you don't mention it, I would guess you haven't.

Yes. Use the firmware umbrella tool. You can find that here: The Firmware Umbrella
You can read about it on the site, but the program is pretty selfexplanatory. All you need to do is connect your phone to your computer, run the program and check 'Advanced Options'. Then point the program to Cydia and ask for 3.1.2 SHSH for your 3GS phone. If Umbrella stores a file on your computer, the SHSH is saved there and it if doesn't, it's not.

From Saurik himself, here's an article on the whole downgrade thing. It's a 20-30 min read (if you're slow like me at least), but well worth it. It'll explain what you need to know to downgrade. Do read it in full as it answers most questions you could have.
Here it is: Caching Apple's Signature Server - Jay Freeman (saurik)

Ok guys, I edited to hosts file. I downloaded the 3.1.2 IPSW from the downloads here at MMi. Now if I option/restore to that it should be all good? And my modem firmware will stay the same?
