i am using the tool to jailbrake my 3g using the 3.1.2 software... but everytime i unzip the file, there is no ipsw file to use for my restore. i am going crazy...

i have internet explorer... idk, i downloaded several versions of the zip and still seem to be unable to find the ipsw.

Are you downloading redsnow. When u download it. It doesntcome with an ipsw.
U have to download yhat from google or from the download tab at the top of the website

yeah, i have been downloading the 'zipped' versions... but everytime i unzip it, it's missing the ipsw... i've tried more than a few sources.

im pretty computer savvy, but this is making me extremely frustrated.

Download the 3.1.2 firmware for your device:

iPhone 3G

iPod Touch 1G & iPod Touch 2G users you'll need to find the 3.1.2 .IPSW that iTunes downloaded onto your computer when you originally updated to 3.1.2

i really appreciate your help, but i understand that the 3.1.2 needs downloaded separately... but it's always a zip file and it never has that in it. maybe you can help me with a direct link and we can make sure we are on the same page?

You really shouldn't use Internet Explorer for anything. It is a horrible browser with the most security flaws. Firefox is pretty awesome and it has a ton of supported plugins that make it even better. The only time I see IE come up on my computer is when I have to access the Windows Update site which doesn't like other browsers.
