I know you have been without your phone for a week. Trust me, I know what it is like because it nailed me too. There are probably hundreds of people patiently waiting on me to release a windows version to fix this. That's another minute, hour, or day they go without a working phone. So trust me when I say, that's a lot of pressure.
I was up until 5am and got up at 7am for work, and I'm trying to balance both. I'm pushing hard to have something for you today. I can't make promises but just know I'm working my butt of to save you guys and all of your data.

It tries to start for no more than 10 seconds and reboot loops. It doesn't seem to stay on long enough to grab an ip. Any ideas?
BTW, I really appreciate your efforts and patience!

Yep! Give me a few to hash out some ideas. I'm going to keep working on the windows fix and we can try some more things. If I get some time tonight, I can chat with you on IM that way.

STATUS REPORT ON MY PROGRESS FOR WINDOWS PEOPLE
I have some bad news, and some good news.
I have disassembled blackra1n and have spent a lot of time analyzing raw assembly to determine the memory register address for the embedded payload data. This didn't go well at first, until I saw header info related to UPX. He compressed the entire binary (.exe) with UPX, so I decompressed it and finally found the header bytes I was looking for, 1F 8B 08 08.
Those bytes are the start of a *.tar.gz compressed image. I dumped hex data from this address to it's end point and voila! I had his "accessories.tar.gz" file which contains the blackra1n app, data, etc. Technically all I need to do from here is repackage my own /sbin, insert the hex and expand the EXE, then adjust all the sizeof values and parameters, and possibly a new CRC32. Then I need to recompress the exe and do some testing on my iPhone.
So the bad news is, i'm not done yet. But i'm making progress. Maybe tonight. We'll see.

Question... will this be compatible with a 3G running 3.0 jailbroke with yellowsn0w?

I am the wife to whom you have to thank for the iPhone fix from ibeej. For those of you freaking out about not having a phone until he figures out a windows fix, you should do what I did when my phone freaked out. I bought a super cheap "go" phone and put my sim card in it because I couldn't handle not having a phone. For $30 I got a replacement that at least allowed me to text and make calls until my husband could fix my phone. It's worth it to be patient until he develops the windows fix. Trust me.

Hello iBeej. I am on my friend's mac and redsn0w doesn't recognize my ipsw! I downloaded the same file from iphone-hacks.com and from bigboss, same result.
1.) iPhone 3G running 3.0.1
2.) not unlocked
3.) used redsn0w to JB
5.) ...but borrowing my friend's mac
6.) TBA, about to try redsn0w

Any update on the progress of the windows fix?
05-11-2010, 11:50 PM #97I got my 3Gs back
Thank you for sharing this fix.
iPhone OS firmware version 3.1.2
Unlocked or not: yes
Which jailbreak did you use: blackrain
The results of the applied FIX:
haven't inserted my sim but all else appears fixed, data intact
To those wondering about the bootrom question in Redsnow. With your iPhone in DFU mode, run System Profiler, highlight USB and follow to your iPhone in recovery mode. The serial number is listed in the info displayed and that tells you what week your phone came out. Wasn't happy about answering that question without knowing for sure so glad to have found the info in System Profiler.
(my 3Gs was from week 20)
Donation coming (gladly).

Now for whoever doesn't understand what is highlighted in BLUE.........that means that iBeej is hard at work on a windows fix for everyone, and he doesn't plan on keeping it a secret, as soon as he gets it done he will release it to everyone.
Great work and detailed information iBeej, thank you

iBeej, your work and dedication is awesome! I think that the world needs more people like you!
This weekend I'll try to fix my iPod Touch with my brother's Mac unless you can release the Windows version before.
If it works for me I'll consider making a donation and I'll report my result here for those having an iPod.

No one is being an impatient beggar by asking how is progress is coming.
Checking and just seein what's goin on and how he's doin with updates is actually pretty fun to follow along with as he gets his project prepared for the masses on Windows.
Stop being a frickin *****.
