    ssh much???

If your phone is connected to you home network when the booting issue happened, then fire up your XP computer, get winscp, and ssh into your phone. Its really easy.

If for some reason ssh won't work, try using USB and iFunbox. I'm not so sure about the older jailbreaks and afc2.

Anyway, use this bit of (objective) c code to find out what jb method was used. (it's a joke lol)

    jailbreakMethod = ask_boyfriend("What was the phone jailbroken with?");
    google("%d afc2 USB browsing", jailbreakMethod);

I can't get the phone to boot up, much less get the computer & WinSCP or iFunBox to see it.

He used RedSn0w to jailbreak it.

Try running redsnow on it again. It usually works for me. You probably have a kernel panic. I have had that MANY times on my iPad. Just try to boot it up again.

About winscp not finding it, try installing the custom ssh bundle with redsnow. Also try the first 10 wifi ip's on your home network. 192.168.1.X

The ssh daemon is automatically turned on when the device boots (about 10 sec into the boot)

Thanks. I will try this when I have time. I'm going on a camping trip this weekend, so I'll try it when I get back. =)

    Well, I got it into Restore mode...by accident while reading troubleshooting threads. ^^; It's plugged to a wall outlet, not the comp, but seems to be holding steady & not dying yet. Will see what happens if I read & tinker some more ^^;

Waw, just waw, I have currently a problem with my iphone stuck at the apple logo and found this thread. I'm so impressed by the community and the helping hands of so many and specifically of BEEJ. If only everybody were like that in real life, the world would be an amazing place!

I'll read the whole thread and come back to you guys if I can't succeed in reviving my stuck iphone 4 4.2.1...

    take care

PS: Just realized that to get into SSH it need to have gone rog when on the same wifi network. Unfortunately mine go stuck on apple logo 2000 miles away from where I am currently so i guess i cannot travel all the way to try to ssh into it

Well, I put my iPhone in Recovery mode & tried iFunBox, iTunnel, & WinSCP. My computer recognizes that there's an Apple device in Recovery mode when I connect it to USB, but none of these programs recognize it.

I also downloaded the official 3.0.1 (my orig fw) and 3.1.3 (the firmware I'll eventually upgrade to) and tried both noerase and redsn0w. I tried dragging both fws onto noerase per a thread's instructions. Both times, it gave this error: "IPSW for an unsupported device: BuildManifest.plist missing!"

I also tried using redsn0w to open both 3.0.1 and 3.1.3. After trying to process each, it gave the error: "Unable to recognize specified IPSW."

I also tried connecting w/ iRecovery w/ the iPhone in Recovery mode, then in normal boot mode (to apple logo). It just says, "Got USB. No iPhone/iPod found."

Any ideas what I did wrong, or any suggestions?

    P.S. I'm using redsn0w 0.9.4.

elananuz - XP right?? make sure that you have your original firmware. If if is messy, just redownload, I use felixbruns.de for my firmware, but they might not have it... iPhone 2G (the original) is your iPhone model??

and DONT put your device into dfu or recovery. winscp only works if the device tries to boot. recovery mode stops winscp. Also, where did the reboot problem happen? Was your iPhone connected to your home network?

oh i just realized that for 3.0.1, you must point redsn0w to the 3.0 ipsw and its probably redsn0w 0.8

    Default Stuck boot logo
Can anyone upload these for the 'forked' windows versions for me Would be very gracefull... Or is there a new way to do the same?

I just ran into the problem after 'apt-get remove cydia' and then 'apt-get install cydia' ... As soon as I started Cydia it said 'initializing filesystem' or something like that. But after that it rebooted and got stuck at the Apple logo....

Just have been on a holiday with my gf and I need to have the pics back :'(

well it looks like you are screwed. Here's what I would do: try syncing, if not, then usb browsing, then ssh.

you seem savvy enough that I don't need to tell you the basics

what happened here is that cydia, on first load rearranges the filesystem. This leads to:
    - File corruption
    - Double symlinking
    - Failed overwrites

chances are that /var/mobile/Media/DCIM/ was not affected.

Did you make this fatal error when your device was connected to your home network??

Hi, can someone please help me???

I hit "update all" apps in the regular apple app store and then tried to send a text message. My iphone froze so I tried to hard reset it. Now my iphone won't work. When I push the power button, the apple logo comes on for 30-45 seconds, then the phone shuts off. Unfortunately, I have not backed up my phone in months and have a lot of important contacts, SMS messages, notes, and photos that I need to save so I want to avoid a total restore. I've read a ton of forums and pages and have tried several things, but I can't get into my phone to backup my data. Phone doesn't stay on so I can't ssh or get iphone explorer to recognize it. Itunes doesn't recognize my phone. Anyone please have any suggestions for me to fix my phone without losing my data?

I have an iphone 2G, firmware 3.0.0, jailbroken and unlocked with Pwnage.

Thank you...any input would be much appreciated!

Try rerunning redsn0w. On 4.3 (I know your on 3.0) modifying the boot process does something.

Just wondering, did any icons go white or if you I've sbsettings, did the toggle's icons go missing? If so you have kernel panic and you MIGHT be able to fix it be rerunning redsnow.

Thank you for your suggestion! I really appreciate it! If I run redsn0w, will all of my data be preserved? Does it matter that I previously jailbroke with pwnage? Also, I thought iphone 2G could only support up to 3.1.3 for jailbreaking/unlocking?

To answer your questions...no, the icons didn't go white. I do have sbsettings but nothing happened to that either. I just did update all on my regular appstore apps and stupidly tried to send a text message at the same time. The iphone froze and I did a hard reset...now forever stuck with apple logo & shutdown.

Looks like it might be a hardware problem... You might have ruined the RAM...

Running Redsn0w DOES preserve data. It basically copies the user data to a temporary ramdisk, then makes a new ramdisk, jailbreaks it, then copies back the data. (This is probably the process, I don't know for sure what it is...) BTW, it replaces the kernel.

However, try rerunning redsn0w by FIRST putting the device then run reds0w clicking off boot tethered, while pointing to the iOS 3.0.0 firmware. And no, iPhone 2g's cannot go pas 3.1.3.

I had a kernel panic with my iPad, and I booted it up with Redsn0w. It changes the kernel.

TRUST ME I HAVE HAD EVERY BOOT PROBLEM, I have been jailbreaking for about 1.5 years

IF none of this works, try replacing the RAM.

Thanks again for your input. Could you please clarify what you mean by "try rerunning redsn0w by FIRST putting the device then run reds0w clicking off boot tethered." What should I do FIRST?

Also, when I jailbroke/unlocked my phone, I used pwnage. On my computer I have the original firmware file for "3.0.0 restore" and a file created by pwange called "3.0.0 custom restore." Which one should I use for redsn0w?

BTW, I remember now that my screen did go totally white at one point, but my icons themselves didn't...

    Steps:
    1. plug in your iPhone and:
    - Turn it off
    - hold power for 3 seconds
    - while holding power, hold down the home button. Do this for 10 seconds
    - release the home button while holding the power button. this is also for 10 seconds
    2. Now that you are in DFU mode, open redsn0w version 0.7.2 and point it to the ORIGINAL firmware.
    3. Once it has finished screwing around with the firmware, click continue. There should be a number of different options. First try "just boot tethered right now"
    4. It jailbreaks the device and it (hopefully) boots. If this doesn't work, keep trying different options (except "enter pwned dfu mode")

If your device actually boots, sync it /////immediately/////

    Appreciate your input.

Followed your instructions using redsn0w version 0.7.2 & version 0.9.4 with both mac and windows. I didn't have the different options for things like "just boot tethered right now" b/c I used the version of redsn0w for iphone 2G. Unfortunately, nothing worked...the entire process completed, but when it came to the point where the phone needed to reboot, it made it to the apple logo, then shut off. So very sad.

    Any other suggestions???

Play around with all of the options.

And if all else fails, try restoring it... If you get a strange error that points to hardware issues, then your RAM is messed up.

Tell me again what you did before this boot problem?
