hello everyone
i had just posted the following message without having seen this thread:
"hello
i apologize if i’m posting in the wrong place. (if so pls re-direct me to the right location)
i have a 3 GS 5.11 baseband 3.1.2 firmware. 2 months ago i unlocked it (tethered) using blackr1n. everything worked smoothly. this morning wifi wasn’t working i did a network restore and when i tried to unlock it again (blackra1n) as i had successfully done many times previously, it got stuck in restore mode. geohot face appears but after a couple of minutes apple logo appears and back to restore mode (itunes USB cable). i wanted to do a restore through iTunes but i only get the option "restore and update" which i do not want to do since i’d be stuck with the 3.1.3 firmware.. i’m SO incredibly stuck! any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you"
i guess we all seem to be having the same problem has anyone found a solution?

hello naly
if it helps you (it didn't for me) a guy called whyviet on another thread wrote the following:
<<<"GF's Phone - older 3GS (3.1.2 + SHSHs on cydia) - Blackra1n/Sn0w - JB&Unlocked
My Phone - Newer 3GS (3.1.2 No SHSHs) - Blackra1n/Sn0w - JB&Unlocked
I should also mention that there were 2-3 occasions I had to reset network settings.
Each time I did, it went into an infinite loop of the debug mode (the itunes icon).
One time I used blackra1n about 4 times in a row and it came back.
The other times, I kept using blackra1n for literally over 5-6 hours (letting sit plugged in and reboot/jailbreak) before it came back.
Presently, I do not plan on resetting my network settings until a fix is found.
I hope this info helps.>>>
i've been trying for hours already but no luck.. if u find a solution please let me know. and i'll make sure to do the same

<<<i left it on overnight, and in the morning it worked. it happened twice. While leaving it on, the power ran out once and i charged it via wall charger then computer, and it seemed to work after awahile as well too. extremely random and i couldnt figure out the reason>>>
i'll try it myself and see what happens

Hi all,
I got the same problem after installing OpenSFH from cydia and saving 3g-unrestrictor deb file on my iphone 3g-s 3.1.2. 7d11 05.11.09 using iphone explorer ( temp directory )
I tried everything and damn it still in the loop.
Has anyone here being succesful in restoring/updating to 3.1.3 ? I would hate that as i will not be able to unlock it but at least it can be jalbreak isinit ?
Also does anyone know a way to contact GEOHOT? If we all contact him, maybe he will able to release a version that make our iphone out of the loop.... Regards

hi i've been at it for 5 days now... and nothing. but if i were you i'd think twice about upgrading to 3,1,3. here's what is says on the dev team blog :
<<<Phone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia. That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.>>>
as far as FRODO is concerned i wouldn't even try. given the amount of crap that people gave him if i were him i would not answer anyone's questions.
if u find a way out of the loop pls let eveyone else know

"Fixed" endless reboot problem
iPhone 3GS, 16gb
Firmware: 3.1.2
Baseband: 05.11.07
Bootloader: 6.4
Model: MB715
newer bootrom
iTunes 9.0.2
Windows 7 64-bit
I had exactly the same problem that you guys are having - endless boot loop when running Blackra1n to boot the phone (tethered jailbreak).
I had jailbroken the phone (Blackra1n), unlocked (blacksn0w), reset network settings (to get wi-fi working)...and all was well.
About a week later, wi-fi was acting up and I reset network settings again (which requires a reboot) and this dropped me into the endless loop nightmare. I searched high and low for a solution and ran Blackra1n many times...no luck.
At this point I was getting desperate (thinking about upgrading to a custom 3.1.3 firmware even though I have the newer bootrom...which seems like it might be a bad idea...I only have SHSH on file for 3.1.3 so downgrade to 3.1.2 afterward would not be possible)...so I left Blackra1n to run overnight....and it worked! This morning the phone was in safe mode, but a restart of springboard fixed that and things seem normal. Wi-fi is disabled for some reason in my settings menu (I am assuming a reboot would fix that, but I am hesitant to push my luck at this stage).
What worked for me:
1. Kill ituneshelper service in taskmanager
2. plug in iphone
3. right click Blackra1n.exe -> run as administrator
4. click "make it rain"
5. do not touch anything...and pray that it works (based on the number of popups from blackra1n, it appears to have worked on the 12th time through)
Hope that helps....

sorry but what do u mean by that? pls be more specific.. thank you1

03-06-2010, 06:57 PM #33When you click "make it rain", GeoHot's picture will appear on the phone and a few seconds later you'll see a pop up dialog on your computer. Don't click OK on the dialog...if the phone reboots into recovery mode, Blackra1n will automatically attempt to boot it again (without you having to click "make it rain" a second time) and will show another pop up dialog on your computer. By letting Blackra1n run overnight I just mean don't click OK on any of the dialogs...let it continue running until eventually the phone boots normally instead of into recovery mode. I had 12 pop up dialogs showing on my computer when I checked in the morning...so it presumably worked on the 12th attempt to boot the phone.sorry but what do u mean by that? pls be more specific.. thank you
Not very scientific, but it worked for me. HTH.

I have the newer bootrom, for me, after the blackrain run, the fone just doensn't boot up at all. Though I've tried leaving phone overnight, there is just no point since the Phone won't restart itself after the very first time BlackRa1n shuts it down....

Mark - how did it work for you? For some reason, after I run blackra1n for the first time and dont click the Ok Buttong and then the phone automatically reboots and comes back up - then itunes opens up and for some reason blackra1n doesnt run automatically again. Am I doing something wrong? Please help.

Thank you!
thank you bcs40
ok it worked at the first time. i'm on a mac but i changed to xp. i had obviously already tried and with multiple machines.. however, this was the first time i was runing blackra1n in administrator mode.
HOWEVER, i'm presently Bricked again!! i did it in exactly same way as before. i did a network reset because wifi wasn't working and once it rebooted i hoped that blackra1n would start working properly again... not so easy...and now i'm on my 20th reboot on xp but i have no regrets since i need wifi way too much to stay without. in case i'll get out of this new loop in the next few days, does anyone here know of another way to resolve the wifi problem aside from resetting network settings?
despite the new loop tragedy, thank you again mark. at least i have seen my iPhone come back to life for a few minutes and i know that there is still hope.Last edited by nwriko; 03-07-2010 at 09:39 AM. Reason: i had thanked the wrong poster
