Help Needed iphone 3g - Os 3.1.2
Hi
I did a security update on cydia on saturday and it has decided not to work any more for me.
The rest of the phone works fine and am having no problems downloading or installing from **********.
Only thing is Cydia crashes as soon as I open it.
I dont have openssh installed (it was on my to do list) so I cant get access that way.
What is the best way to install cydia onto my phone again, i dont want to jailbreak again as Im not sure what or how to do it, so is there a simple way to install cydia without losing the information on my phone??
An idiots guide to how to install cydia and what app to use on the mac would be a great help
Thanks
Dave
I bought the phone jailbroken and unlocked, thus my reluctance to do it myself.
Obviously if that is the only option to get cydia working again then i will have to do it.
Hope that someone can help though as soon as i get cydia working again i will install openssh but obviously this is hampering me now.Last edited by redmanc2004; 01-18-2010 at 08:32 AM.

I actually responded to a forum like this a week or two ago. The guy said he just found a stock Cydia file and reinstalled it into his phone through SSH. If you can find that file, you can just stick it back into your phone in the Applications folder and see if that works.
And as for the SSH part, download iFunBox. I don't think you need OpenSSH for that to work.
If it doesn't work, then restore and rejailbreak/unlock. You should really learn how to do it sooner or later cuz firmware updates happen and when it does happen, sometimes it's very hard to resist new features...

THanks, I have tried ifunbox and it didnt let me have access to deeper roots of the phone.
Open SSH seems to be the key to all this i wish that i had.
What would you suggest is the best app to rejailbreak/unlock my phone
I believe Blacra1n is quick, but will i lose all my info or will a backup in itunes keep all my info? so then i resync and will get all the apps back???
Just want to do it so i can get all the cydia stuff working again
Thanks

Why are you trying to install apps from a source that is starred out?
It's a good way to screw up your phone and warez are not supported on MMi.He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. He who doesn't ask a question remains foolish forever.

I know that, and the problem didnt arise from anything installed from the other source, it was a cydia update that caused it, so the question isnt regarding warez, more if there is a way to get cydia back without having to re jb.
Looks like im going to have to bite the bullet and jailbreak again and have a fresh install

Blackra1n it! Do a fresh upgrade (or restore if you're already on 3.1.2) thru iTunes then run Blackra1n on it. After, open the Blackra1n app on your SB and install what you need (Cydia Rock and/or Blacksn0w). Re-open app and select delete then reboot.
Aptbackup will backup any jailbreak apps, so do that before you restore/upgrade. After you did all that simply download Aptbackup again (NOT APPBACKUP, it's APTBACKUP) and hit restore and it will re-install every app you had in one click. As for your App Store Apps syncing with iTunes should back it up and put it back on your phone when you're finished.
There's a paid app called pkgbackup that will do the same and supposedly a better job as Aptbackup but I never tried it so... I had no problems with AptBackup. Some people have tho so if anything happens Im not responsible

If you don't want to JB at this point, go install Rock(it works as Cydia)then remove and reinstall Cydia through Rock.
It worked for me

just go to rockyourphone.com, sign in to download, then connect your iphone to your PC... there is a trick in case Rock doesn't show up on your spring board, also download a trail app from the web( it's free), then you will see both on your spring board. Yes, you will find Cydia in Rock..., you know what to do the rest
