iPhone 3GS Jailbreaking Troubles

Hi,

I have jailbroken a couple iPhone 3G's but i have never attempted to jailbreak an iPhone 3GS until lastnight when my new phone came in. Everything i try fails the same way. Here is what happens..

Using Pwnage Tool:
The firmware completes with no problem, i can put it into UDF mode with little to no trouble. When i go to install the firmware, that's where the issue comes into play. The firmware installs but when it goes to reboot after the install the phone goes back to UDF or Recovery mode instead of going to the Emergency Call thing.

Using Backrain:
The blackrain executes fine but when it goes to reboot, the phone goes back to UDF or Recovery mode.

The only way to get the phone to work again is to restore it with an unmodified copy of the 3.1.2 3GS firmware.

I have watched and read many tutorials on how to jailbreak the 3GS with the 3.1.2 firmware and they all work for the person in the video but fail for me when it comes for the reboot it does the usual getting stuck in UDF or Recovery Mode.

I have even tried many different places that hosted the firmware for download. They all work for a normal restore but the phone does the usual thing when it reboots.

You need to search, you have a tethered jailbreak.

Is there any way around to having to use the tethered jailbreak?
At the momment the phone is not jailbroken.

There are plenty of rumors. Don't believe them though.

You will probably have a long wait ahead. My guess is they are waiting till the 4G comes out so they have a gateway in. Sorry but you are stuck with a tethered jailbreak for now. Most of the time you shouldn't have to restart much but if the battery dies that can be rough.

Jst to make sure I understand the tether jailbreak. For my phn.

After I jailbreak it once and it restarts, I jst run blackrain again and it should work? And every time the phn reboots or is turned off and back on I will have to run blackrain again?

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That is correct. Anytime that you have to reboot your phone or it's battery dies you have to just run blackra1n again. You will not lose anything, it just basically jump starts the boot.

I'm doing my 3gs w/ new iboot.... I get the GH screen and then the 'connect to itunes' USB icon. should I wait lnger before considering it a fail and hit that restore button?.... I've done the 3G blackra1n and it works like a charm. At this point I like to mod my screens, but I also want to utilize 3g unrestrictor to skype talk to my wife on her mac while she is out of the country.... so am I completely stuck for now or are there any developments that may hve surfaced?... I've looked around, but I'm new enough that I am limited on JB resources...
