AT&T/Apple can't help ... Can you?
I have a 3gs was running 3.1 with custom ipsw that was workng fine. I also have 2g iPhone that I was upgrading to 3.12 and blackra1n to sell to a friend. I put my 3gs sim into the 2g phone while I upgraded and it asked me to change my plan so I cancelled activation and put it back into the 3gs. Ever since then evrytime I enable 3g on my 3gs it says "no service" instead of reverting back to edge or even showing 3g and not conecting like it used in bad coverage areas. If I disable 3g it have 5 bars of edge constantly but the second I turn on 3g it just syas "no service". I called At&t to see if there were any changes to my account but they said everything was fine and I should be receiving both 3g and edge conections. Then I upgraded to 3.12 and tested before blackra1n with no luck so I then DFU/restore to set up as a new phone and that didn't work. I ran blackra1n anyway because it just better jb'ed. I spoke to apple on the phone and they said I should bring the phone in and if they can't find a solution then they would swap it out. I would much rather not swap out the phone because of the possiblity of need to do a tethered jb. Does anyone have any ideas?
3gs
3.12 (7D11)
5.11.07
AT&T 5.6
windows xp
by the way I live in NJ which is the bluest part of AT&T's 3g map and never had any problem like this before with conecting to 3g. It o ly started after the sim swap above.
Thanks in advance.

Maybe you can try getting a new SIM?
Shot in the dark, but if AT&T will give you one for free, might be worth trying.

if you're getting the same problems after a DFU restore, you might just want to have it replaced- it could be a hardware issue-
are you sure u DFU'd properly???
try LOO's new sim idea- if that doesnt work- just have them swap it out- u never know, you might get lucky- u might get a refurb with the old boot-
or if you get the new boot you could just sell it and buy one with the old boot-happiness is a warm iphone~~~~

Thaks for the replys.
I'm going to try the sim swap idea it's worth a try. If it doesn't work then hopefully I get an older refurb with good boot rom. I don't feel like dealing with the tethered jb or trying to sell and get an older one.
I just really hate edge speeds it's like going back to dial up.
Thanks everyone.

Just in case anyone has this problem it wasn't the sim. I got that's swapped out and it didn't help. I went to apple and they swapped the phone out for me and it was pre-Iboot so I now have a new phone manufactured in July '09 (according to the genius). I figured he would be a little more suspicious when I asked when the phone was made but I guess not.
Thanks again for the help.
