Iphone 3GS 3.1.2(7D11) jailbreak
So I went about jail breaking my 3GS with Blackra1n. I just upgraded to the 3GS from a jailbroken 2G. I downloaded the blackra1n program as it says. Plug in my iphone and it jailbreaks it. I tap the ra1n icon on my iphone and install Cydia. After It is done installing I reboot it as it says. When It restarts Cydia isn't on there. So just to make sure I installed Cydia and rock, rebooted, same thing. I also tried installing it and not rebooting it and it still wasn't there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, my firmware is 05.11.07.
My phone already had 3.1.2 on it when I got it, If that makes a difference.
I just tried uninstalling blackra1n and reinstalling it to my iphone but now when I install it, it doesn't even show up.Last edited by leong6gtp; 12-03-2009 at 02:02 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Restore and install it again. I believe you need to install Cydia through the blackra1n app. I don't think it's on there from the start. If you insist on having both Cydia and Rock, try installing one at a time and reboot in between.

Aww after it working I installed Winterboard and I accidentally pressed the reboot button and the phone won't restart, which was expected. From what I gathered I have to put it in DFU mode and use blackra1n again?

Let the phone try to turn on for like 10 minutes, sometimes that happens to me when I install something from cydia...
But yeah if it never turns on... its restore (dfu or recovery) and reblackra1nThe only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!

So do you have to reboot the phone to completely install winterboard? Because if so then It won't be worth me installing it if It makes me do everything over again.

Gotcha, well you don't need to do a restore or anything, you just need to re-run blackra1n, its only a 30 second process...

Ok, I'm just having a bit of trouble getting it in DFU mode to use blackra1n. Just a matter of getting it down right i guess.
I just put it in DFU mode and ran blackra1n and it didn't recognize my phone. And when I tried running it without DFU(tried it this way just in case) it said it worked but sill doesn't start up.Last edited by leong6gtp; 12-03-2009 at 08:10 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

If it happens again while you're doing a reboot, it's likely that you have a tethered jailbreak. So if it happens, getting stuck at 'Connect to iTunes'-logo, don't mess with the phone. Don't try to put it in any kind of mode. Simply connect your phone to your computer and run blackra1n while that logo is on your screen. That should make it boot normally. It'll be something you have to do every time you restart/reboot/turn on your phone.
Might sound like a pain but once you're done setting up your phone, it really won't be necessary to do all that much and you can just avoid installing new Cydia apps and such when you're not near a computer.

So for a 3GS they have to run blackra1n every time the phone restarts? I have a 3G and I'm thinking about moving to a 3GS to hand my 3G to my girlfriend. If getting 3GS means I have to do all that work are there any forums listing the steps to make that process easier? Sounds complicated and tricky.

It's actually not hard at all. I installed winterboard again and rebooted it. It went to the plug to iTunes screen and I plugged it in to my computer, ran blackra1n again just like the others said and it worked fine. Still had everything I installed on it. It must have been a one time thing when it didn't work for me the first time.

With that right there you just talked me into getting a 3GS! If all I have to do is simply run blackra1n after a restart when the iTunes logo shows up then I'm sold. A little work on my part isn't a problem, hope it just goes over smooth LOL Once I set my theme for winterboard no need for me to restart after that...

Yes I've read that you won't know whether your 3GS is tethered or not until you actually reboot after installing blackra1n. I think you can tell by looking at the serial but I wasn't sure if it was confirmed or not. When I first tried booting from the "connect to itunes" with blackra1n it didn't work. However, I believe this to be a fluke because I have rebooted about 3 times after starting out fresh from that one occasion with blackra1n and its worked flawlessly ever since. The only program I had to reboot for was winterboard so far and that's it. There is not many programs that require a reboot anyway so its not like you'll have to reboot every time you install something. Hope this helps.

All 3gs's produced after week 41 of this year will require you to use Blackra1n to boot a JB'd phone. This is due to the new iBoot on these phones. You can confirm what phone you are getting before taking it out of the box by checking the serial #. The 4th and 5th digits are the week produced. If the serial is XX940XXXXXX or lower you will have the older iBoot and won't have to worry about running Blackra1n on every reboot.
