[iPhone 3GS - Firmware 3.1.2] Untethered Jailbreak?

Hi there, I'm about to try blackra1n, but I'd really like to know if there's another option that's untethered... I'm quite sure I'll have problems with a tethered jailbreak...

Any clues?

If you have the new bootrom, blackra1n tethered is your only option for jailbreaking.

There's various ways to detect your bootrom version but the easiest solution is just to jailbreak using blackra1n and then see if you can reboot without running the program again.

i couldnt jailbreak my iphone with blackra1n wat can i do

i have the old bootrom 359.3 and i cannot reset or restart my phone without having to enter recovery and do a full restore. i am not sure why this is happening when a) i have the good bootrom and b) i try to just use blackrain again and it sticks at the geohot screen

btw the phone is a 3gs refurbed that shipped with 3.1.2

I have an iPhone 3gs running 3.1.2 and modem 5.11. What I did was jailbreak with spirit and then unlock (for T-Mobile) with blackra1n rc2 through cydia.

Now I am unteather jailbroken and unlocked on a 3gs with the new boot rom.

I do have an ATT sim that I used to activate after the 3.1.2 restore and I have my 3.1.2 shsh on file w/saurik.


My steps were:

1. Restore in iTunes to 3.1.2 (changed the hosts file to use saurik's server)

2. Activate in iTunes, but did not restore from backup yet

3. Jailbreak with spirit

4. followed these instructions to unlock with blackra1n rc2 through cydia: http://www.redmondpie.com/blacksn0w-...eband-9140546/

5. Put in my TMobile sim and rebooted

6. Restored my backup from iTunes and resynced.


Now I have a 3gs with the new boot rom running unteathered jailbreak and unlocked with TMobile on 3.1.2 and modem FW 5.11.

Yes this will work if only you have 3.1.2 shsh file backup with Cydia. Otherwise just Stay with Blackra1n jailbreak if you need an unlocked.

Spirit jailbreak only work on a non-jaibroken Iphone meaning yuo need to restore to stock 3.1.2 before proceeding to use Spirit...

Where do you look on Cydia?

I am new to this and I did at one time press make my life or whatever it asked in Cydia.
